Is it possible to find the history of the plate? I imagine it’s quite old and it intrigues me
A quick Google shows that Hampshire County Council issued AAA 1 in 1934, there are quite a few number plate "beards" here (meant in the nicest possible way!!), who I'm sure will fill you in on it's journey since when they see this.

No idea where they find the information but it makes interesting reading.

Nice lurking btw!!
Beard here! Been away for a bit. It's pretty much impossible to track the ownership of a plate down the years, unless they are famous documented ones (like A1), but us geeks (as valid as beard) have specialist books that can at least tell when and where a plate was issued, if it is original, and the history of how registration practice evolved. I'm always happy to help, although I can go weeks between getting on PH sometimes so if anyone has a specific question feel free to DM me.

What does anyone think of CL10 plates? Im ashamed to admit that having been looking at Clio 200's recently, I may have had a moment thinking that I could be tempted to get one (likely to be 10 plate anyway)....

One local to me, I love minis so I noticed this one, is the plate original to it? I don’t think it is but I’m not sure. Thanks smile
Yes, that's original and cracking. reverse W was issued from 1001 up by Sheffield; they were issued between March 1960 and October 1961.

Here's mine biggrin

It's an inoffensive, non-pretentious bit of fun. Problem is though that most of the good CL10 <XXX> plates have been snapped up. Although on last check CL10 GAY is still available for just £250 from the DVLA hehe

I still have the CHRISTIES catalogue from Dec 1992 with a picture of the plate on the front cover displayed on a Bentley,it was auctioned in South Kensington and was Lot No 1 it sold for £40,000 + VAT(17.5%) Etc. There were less than 40 numbers in total but all top end mainly No 1's with two didgits and others inc "ROB 1N" "MOV 1E" "K1 ETH" "1 MUM"&"1 DAD" and then they were all sold with no reserves... nerd

Edit........ Sorry just realised the plate seen is CHR 15 but the story for CHR 1S still applys..

Where's the best place to sell a couple of plates in a reasonable time-frame?
Dealers have valued them at £1500 - £1800 (back to me) but the plates they advertise seem to be advertised for yonks and ideally i'd like to sell in weeks rather than months (without giving them away of course).
If the plates in your picture then I wouldn't see them at that value - both are 6 character which has less value and you can pick up similar at the DVLA auction for maybe £1k? Prices online are not necessarily the price at which they sell - the dealers are always overly optimistic as the higher the price the more commission for them...

best approach is a 99p start auction on ebay if you want them to sell and quickly... make sure that they are on retention first...
I thought of putting mine on eBay at a Buy-Now of £10,000, but with Make-An-Offer. In the text, I would say that I don't expect to get £10k, but I will consider offers over a certain amount.

Cheating, I know, because:
a) It's mine
b) It's not a UK plate

But I thought you might be interested. The market is different in Oz and I paid around 1% of the price you would expect to pay in the UK for an equivalent 2x1.

As mentioned on another thread how does the system work in OZ..? Can you Buy,Sell and Transfer to third partys like in the UK..? Do have number plate dealers..? What sort of value is your plate. ? Nice one by the way..!

You can sell/transfer, but there is not much of a dealer market.

In Victoria, they are fixed price from the equivalent of the DVLA. A 2x1 costs around £1.2k.

I like the fact you can get a really distinctive plate for a price that over here would get you something pretty ordinary or requiring miss spacing or a bag of screw heads. smile
