No pic but I saw 7AFF on a Porsche Panamera tonight at a service station. Sadly not in Wales and yes, it was misspaced but looked good.

Anyone have their on the auctions starting tomorrow?
I'm bidding on a 4 digit dateless plate, been trying to get a dateless one for a while now but they always go over budget!
I’m bidding by phone on 2. One I’m told “that is a popular one Sir...” the other I know I’m up against at least 2 people.
How do you know that? They told you over the phone?
Yep. With very little prompting too.

One of them has an absentee bid and I tried to see if I could catch the nice lady out by asking how much for (not sure why) but she laughed and said she liked my try but it won’t work with her!

Can anyone explain why the reserve at the DVLA auctions for plates in the format:
3000 GD (or equivalent where the first bit is a round number of thousands and last two are random characters)
seems to always be £2k and yet quite a few don't have any bids...

seems a high reserve when some others which sell for far more have a far smaller reserve...
e.g. 812 FER had a reserve of only £1,200 and yet is currently the highest seller at £38k

doesn't seem to make any sense!

The selling price is completely unknown don’t forget and won’t form any part of the setting of reserves.

In local High Street earlier, wonder what that`s worth these days.

sorry, confused here smile
there must be a logic as to a) why a plate is in the auction and b) how they set the reserve...

the plate format I am curious about always seems to be one of the higher reserves, yet is one of he common formats not selling which seems strange...

so DVLA put 812 FER into the auction, I am sure that they would have done so knowing that Ferrari were selling an 812 model... so a good chance of a high price... so why was the reserve only £1,200 yet the plate 3000 GD has a reserve of £2k (admittedly that one sold, but others in that format at this and oher sales haven't sold...

of course, the selling price is not known at that point, but I am sure that DVLA have a pretty good if rough understanding of value, but they seem to be wrong more often on this format than any other...

Perhaps it’s because they know some plates could sell not as well, so set a higher reserve to artificially engineer the prices? They know they don’t need to with some, such as 812 FER.

Having said that, one I’m bidding on on Friday is a £250 reserve and very obscure (to most!)

MrReg will be better placed to answer further.

Having seen the auction today and knowing that mine has a reserve of £2.2K ...

I'm out

I’m not confident even with a low reserve on both I’m bidding on (£250). It takes just one other bidder with a higher budget than me and I’m out.

One I’m quietly confident on, the other not at all as I think it’ll go for decent money. That one is OOO 100S.

Must be mistaken, that's on a AMG GTS and previously a Bentley.

The rules may have changed, not registered for the one off auctions lately.

After the auction is finished they send out an email listing all the ones that haven't sold, you can buy them for the reserve plus the fees.

So it is possible that a plate you were interested in, may be available at the reserve if no one else bid.

Did look quite cool by it's absolutely-bang-on-ness.

Still the case. 5 were unsold from Day 1 at the Leeds auction. None appeal to me though.

2000 BX - £2,000
2000CU - £2,000
777 DY - £2,200
9000 FS - £2,000
809 GL - £2,200

809 GL - £2,200
which also goes to confirm my point above about the formats starting at £2k - 60% of those unsold!

777 DY is a lovely number - I could have had 777 OD (my initials) for reserve as an unsold lot a couple of years ago, of which I massively regret not buying! Lucky 7's and all that...
