Real Good Number Plates vol 5
Discussion
Slightly on topic.... there's a house / business / junkyard not far from me, for years they've had all sorts of old cars out front and on the road (almost always untaxed / uninsured) - old Rolls, <1950 Fords etc..
But they usually have period number plates, or older format ones eg. ABC 123 - assuming most of the cars are just scrap I'm tempted to keep an eye out for anything interesting and see if they'd be willing to let them go cheap if the car's at the end of it's like (most I see are way past...)
This is the most recent Streetview but if you skip back there's been all sorts there over the years..

I clocked one the other day when I drove past, checked it when I got home - ECL 345 - 1950 Bentley. Not a bad plate?

Does the car not need a valid MOT to be able to transfer the plate from it? Could make for a costly plate but if you saved the car, sold that as an MOT'ed vehicle and got a decent plate out of it, the project might be good fun. I don't think it does any more, but if it doesn't have one, it needs to have been on continuous SORN for at least five years, and able to move under its own power. I *think* that means you'd have to buy it, SORN it, leave it five years, get it running, then grab the plate. smithyithy said:
Balls, could be more effort than it's worth..
I'll look into a bit more though, might give DLVA a ring (leaving out the part about untaxed vehicles laying around..) as they're generally quite helpful over the phone
Think the car can have it transferred regardless of MOT status, as long as it’s been continuous SORN for up to 5 years.I'll look into a bit more though, might give DLVA a ring (leaving out the part about untaxed vehicles laying around..) as they're generally quite helpful over the phone
Be aware that the donor vehicle may need inspecting & if this is the case, you would need it taken to where they do inspections.
I’d also reckon whoever owns these cars knows exactly what the plate(s) are worth.
