Don't know if he still owns it but that used to belong to Khan design....
Back in the 1980’s it was owned by an antique dealer in Bury St Edmunds and was on an old 260 Volvo estate.
And prior to that, a Toyota Celica.

Didn't know that, remember the Volvo from around 86/87.

Sorry Craig, usually I take your valuations at face value but I think you are way out here.
In fairness you do say "easy".
This plate is not real good, it's way beyond that.
You can't make ANNIE any other way.
I have it on reasonable authority that LEW1S has been offered a lot more than £150000 for his plate.
LEW1S, DAV1D, B1LLY etc. way better than a 1x1
I'd take a 1x1 over anything with a suffix or prefix. Having your name on your car looks naff to me.

Does anyone know the history / backstory of that plate ? I thought the DVLA only auctioned un-released plates and not re issues ?

I ask because my dad has told me on many occasions that years ago (back in the 60's) his friend had that plate on a Morris 1100 (a la Fawlty Towers) which belonged to the blokes sister. I never expected to see it on a car, so I'll tell him it's still around.

His friend also had the plate, 1 CUM

You are correct DVLA only auction un-releleased numbers and according to Noel Woodall's "Car number's" book ANN 1E was never released until 1989..

1 CUM is an original release..

@ £39K 30 years ago they overpaid for it in a big way. Over the years it has increased in value and yes, is a £150K plate today easy.

What were 1x1's selling for 30 years ago?

Well, DAV 1D, or B1 LLY, are not 'way better' than for example A 1, if you're called Tarquin, are they?

ANN 1E is only any good if you're called ANNIE. It's no better than DAN 1E, FAN 1E, FAN 1Y or BOB 1Y. They're not really 'way beyond real good', are they?

Spotted this a couple of weeks ago in Newcastle.

Nice to see a Range of that vintage without "TINTZ INNIT BRUV", too.

1FA and 7A, both in central London today. Bentley looked like it hadn’t moved in a very long time. Apologies if these are regulars on this thread...

"7 A" looks good value now, sold for £8100 + in 93 and "1 FA" £10,000 + in 96 Both worth many many times over that now....clap

7 A was transferred off that Bentley a while back, looks like it's currently on a retention cert somewhere

I swear everytime I see this plate it's on a different 500

I've never seen 7 A on a Bentley.

On the singlesingle site it's showing on a Maybach, I checked Ask Mid to see if the plate had changed but that's also showing it on a Maybach 57. The gov DVLA check tax website doesn't show 7 A at all so must be on retention?

I was bored so checked the green numbers of sold plates on the Yet To Be Found list:

9 A is on a white Mercedes SLK.
3 B is on a silver Porsche 1600 Coupe
8 B is on a grey Bentley Bentayga
7 G is on a green Audi RS5

6 J is on a white MG Midget
9 J is on a silver Audi TT
4 L is on a grey Mercedes E350
7 L is on a grey Mercedes E350
4 M is on a black Land Rover -
6 N is on a white Mercedes SL500
3 O is on a green Mini Countryman
4 O is on a black Land Rover Defender 90
6 O is on a grey Porsche 918
4 P is on a blue BMW 640i
7 P is on a beige Mercedes V250
4 S is on a black Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
2 T is on a red Mercedes SL350
8 T is on a yellow Porsche 991 Turbo S
9 T is on either a silver Aston Martin or a Volkswagen Polo MK3 - Not showing as insured
6 V is on a MG XPOWER 4.6 {320BHP} SV

6 W is on a black BMW 320D

Any green number missing is because it DVLA check says not found so must be on retention.

Hope this helps.
