An initial look says FDK commenced in early 1946 and lasted well into 1947. Rochdale Corporation had buses FDK 331-335, and famous Rochdale-based coach operator Yelloway, had FDK 566-572, all of these new in spring 1947. Yelloway, Ellen Smith and Rochdale Corporation also had a lot of GDKs as vehicle replacement kicked in after wartime austerity.

I will look it up tonight to see if there's any further info.
That's really interesting - I never even knew such info was available!

I'm a mine of useless information, or where to find useless information.

Nothing much more to say having looked it up. FDK commenced in January 1946, and used until January 1948. FDK 556 was issued Jan 1947, so yours was probably late 1946. Rochdale used a single series for all vehicles (until reversed DK numbers in 1961), so could have been on anything from new. You can check if the local records office has kept the paperwork.

Random question.

Can the providence of an original issue plate have an impact on its value over say, a DVLA plate?

Plate for plate I think it is generally accepted that an Original Issue especially an early one has more value.
However no two plates are the same (other than a few mis-spaced ones) so it’s not that straight forward.laugh

I will get my camera out next time but keep seeing EE 66 around on a Golf R, is this especially rare / valuable?

I can't seem to find many others with EE first, a quick google suggests it's pre 1930 Grimbsy.

Would think that is correct.
A friend at college in the late ‘60s who was from Grimsby had a Minivan reg no PEE 39. My urologist consultant has a 911 reg no A1 PEE.
A friend has various - - EE registrations which were bought through the DVLA.

Lancashire Records Office is behind the railway station in Preston.

I went there when I needed to track down a copy of the original registration ledger to help reinstate the registration of my old TVR.

If you go there and speak to one of the curators, they will dig out the original registration ledgers for you to look at.

In my case, I was shown a big book of all the consecutive registrations from 1970/71, with details of the vehicle, date of registration, chassis number etc.

They have most of the ledgers for Lancashire, including Preston, Lancaster, Blackpool, Southport etc etc, but the records are not entirely complete.

I also tried to look up a registration for an old Lotus that was originally registered in Southport, but that ledger had been lost.

Edited to add: Obviously you would need to go to the Records Office that may have the records for your particular number, which may be at the Central Reference Library in Manchester.
