This story was actually told to Clarkson by Wheeler on camera, just in case anyone dismisses it as a 'Clarksonism' thumbup
Ah yes, I remember now. I haven't watched it, but I think I've found an appropriate link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b1X9Tl_qe4
My memory told me it was something I read in Performance Car magazine. But it could well have been from old Top Gear, and I just 'mis-remembered'.

Regarding the 'white elephant', I'm not a fan of the looks. But to be honest I feel that way about '80s TVR design generally. For me it's the cars from the S2 onwards that really look good. (I know the S2 is an '80s design, but I think of it as the start of the new direction for the '90s .)

Good call by Wheeler in this case. Cars either look right or they don't.

I had to Google a few more images as I was also unaware such a car existed.

Found a pic of the rear which exhausts aside is quite appealing as is the rest of the design in a 80s 'wedgetastic' way

"While the front end is recognisably TVR" What part(s) exactly?

The overall look is a Tasmin on steroids so I'd have called it a TVR if someone showed me the pictures back in the day.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Peter Wheeler as he was sat in traffic in this car getting out of Mallory park. At the time and in the flesh it looked fantastic.
I think it still does and it's a credit to its new owner, the car world would be a dull place without the likes of Wheeler and people like Howard who keep them alive, well and used.

Ned? Was he the dog that served as head of design on the Cerbera?
One of three heads.

This thing, however, was always ugly as sin. I would put it right up there with the likes of Pontiac Aztek, Fiat Multipla and Ssangyong Rodius level ugly.

Sorry but I have to agree with Bladedancer and lord trumpton. The cars mentioned are what came to my mind when I saw the pictures. It is, for me, one of the ugliest cars, if not the ugliest car I have ever seen.

That's definitely its best angle, the front is a a little awkward but its still a pretty cool looking thing.

Mind you I quite like the Eighties Aston Lagonda and despise modern shapes like the Merc A class and original 1 series hatch, so what do I know!

It's not great but it's of it's time.

And I don't believe you or anyone else looked at it and thought Fiat Multipla!

When I looked at It I thought that if I ever see it again it would be a million years too soon.
