R34 vspec 2 in midnight purple 3 on some bronze/gold TE37s is the ultimate looking GTR in my opinion
Because I'm weird I'd rather have one of these if money was no object... my GTS-T is so amazing I just want to try one of these to see how it blows my mind!

The Nissan GTR isn't the dream for me (especially with that plate!) but I can relate...

As dreams go, the GTR is quite obtainable- make it happen for you.
I could not run one as a daily, to "in your face" for my line of work. Could I afford one at the minute? In a word, no. But I could afford something very nice and very fast. I will potter about in my little 1 series for the time being until I just cant bare it anymore and in the meantime get my fast fix from goading other road users to floor it!

Glad you enjoyed the experience OP. Not my dream but they're impressive motors and in a world of GT3RS and Speciales selling for £2-300k I think £90k for a track focussed one is probably a decent buy.
Thank you Hitch. Yes, from a performance point of view you would be hard pushed to buy something standard which could out run it.

In a word, no.
I concur, I could have two absolutely amazing motors for the money he has spent. I did enjoy it when he dropped it and flew past but there is a lot to be said for understatement.
For me they are just a bit huge. I think they have a bit of an image attached to them (bare horsepower bruv) and as some of the other posters have said I appreciate the engineering achievements especially in the industry I am in but having been in one the one thing that sticks me was how much it rattled. That could again be down to the industry I am in. They are very fast (to me) though so for that alone I can see the appeal, but not really a dream car for me.

What's "class" even got to do with it, Mr La-de-da?
I did have similar thoughts albeit not quite as brutal as that but in my mind I do deem the GTR as a bit chavvy.

I'm not saying it's entirely chav, it is an epic car in many ways but it's a poster car for a lot of people who love modified Subarus and Evos, it's that step up from those kinds of cars. Again they're not all chav, I have a friend who has a track focussed Impreza and is a partner at a law firm but there is still quite a chav following.

I wouldn't say the GTR is a classy car but then again cars that are dream cars to me may not be seen as classy to others. smile

Nice smile
Many years ago I was travelling down the A46 in my Impreza Type-R. As I approached a roundabout there was a Gallardo (my dream car) at the junction on the left indicating right. As I went past, I gave him a smile and a thumbs up. So, instead of turning right, he turned left to follow me and on the next straight gave it the full monty going past me. What a noise. He then went 180 round the next roundabout to resume his journey and gave me a smile and a wave as he went. Top bloke.

Definitely.

It's nice when people give a demonstration of performance we can only dream of.

I flip flop between a GTR and a Conti cab (I know very different cars for very different things) as my purchase next year ... The thought of the GTRs speed is awesome but I don't think I could use it safely (never mind legally) whereas the Conti is sublime and perfect for sunny days and wafting

I'm torn and totally understand your dilemma ... I quite like the plate to

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I bet no one on this thread who has been calling the GTR chavvy or classless has a car I'd rather own over a GTR.

It's a terrible PH trait that is common on a lot of threads.

And that plate is dire....

'Chavvy' and 'classless' is kind of a contradiction in terms but I see what you're getting at.

Leaving aside any image issues associated with the car itself and personalised plates in general, the miss-spacing of the plate is enough to set off my 'probable bellend' alarm.

Genuine question mate, what kind of car would you rather own over a GTR?

Honestly don't mean that in a sarcastic way. smile

Prob a 911 Turbo S or any track specific 911.. anything from the McLaren range, Lambo.. Basically supercars!

I do really like the GTR and don't get people's obsession with is being chavvy. In my opinion, if you wouldn't own a car purely because you think someone might think you're a 'chav' then you are clearly very insecure with your social standing. Not owning it because you dislike it is different!

What you aspire to own is entirely at your discretion. It's simply my view on a GTR with a fiddled number plate spelling keep up. And hence I said horses for courses.

It would seem you agree that this is the dream. For me, it isn't. It is rare that I place a particular car into a defined box but sadly I do with the GTR.

I respect the GTR for what it is capable of and for its tech masterpiece. I would also fancy 1/2 day around a circuit in one. As for aspiring to own one, no. No doubt the PH response of "jealous haters" will be slung at me for a similar reason.

Fair enough mate and to be fair I'd take any of the cars you mention over the GTR.

I do personally think they are chavvy but if I liked it enough I wouldn't care less if it was as I'd be grinning like a loon on every drive. Sadly, I'm just no into them particularly and that's the main reason I wouldn't own one. Remember I own a Twingo 133 so image is certainly not the first thing when it comes to car purchases haha.

Also, you can get one for around £40k so looking at cars in that price bracket there's a number of cars that although not as high performing, I would probably pick over the GTR.

Certainly a lovely moment, nice to see someone enjoying their car!

The only time I've been involved with a GTR was when I had my 320bhp Impreza... which was nice to drive around in knowing I *could* beat most cars on the road to 60mph. Until I had a play with a GTR and it just left me for dust! Really impressive, though such a big beast of a car, which makes it something I'd probably never want to own myself.
