Priority question
Discussion
Bridgefoot Roundabout Warrington. Multiple access points and exits. Traffic light controlled. Some yellow boxes on the roundabout.

Question is, which takes precedence: priority for vehicles on the roundabout, or green traffic lights for vehicles entering the roundabout?
Here for example. As you come round the roundabout you meet a queue of cars so you can’t enter the yellow box. But you have no red traffic light. The lights for vehicles entering change to green and they come onto the roundabout and conflict occurs.
Which traffic has priority?

The way I was taught, green only means go if safe to do so, you still have to give way to traffic to your right, even on green.

I suspect if you drive to the letter of the highway code you'd be there for a week in rush hour!

I cross this roundabout pretty much everyday going from Knutsford Road up towards Mersey Street. I tend to arrive around 7am so it's not too bad but on the odd occasion I'm passing later the traffic just can't move if everybody obeys the rules.
The Council are planning a separate one way route that would take a significant amount of traffic away but last I heard was still awaiting funding.
Best info I can find is here: http://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/13810106....
Is it a roundabout or a gyratory/ one way system? I seem to remember its not a roundabout if it has a permanent structure inside it- I might have made that up though!
Looks similar to the Hanger Lane gyratory which is controlled by traffic lights with yellow boxes to keep the junctions clear.

I agree, but it doesn't work like that in real life. Soon as the lights go green, everyone rushes onto the roundabout. The way I was taught, green only means go if safe to do so, you still have to give way to traffic to your right, even on green.
Hangar Lane only has one yellow box, and traffic on the 'roundabout' is controlled by traffic lights, so not the same scenario.
