That statement just makes me quite sad really. frown
I agree but I know lots of people that do aspire to own them.

A property developer has recently been parking his R8 on and off where I walk past on the way to work. I found myself checking them out on autotrader and thinking a 2009 V8 might be nice. Not so much as an aspiration, more of an itch I might like to scratch.

My problem is I tend to prioritize the drive so look for the car that meets my practical requirements that least compromises the driving experience. The badge does not really matter, if it is good to drive I'll consider it.

OK maybe one car in the VAG group that I quite like, even if it's only for the often mental styling (though less said about Blockbuster paint jobs the better wink ). Still wouldn't buy one mind smile .

I dont think anyone has to justify fancying an R8, I love them and to be honest am no longer an Audi hater, I think as petrolheads we dont like the normals telling us what the best cars are, it is kind of like techy people that hate Apple stuff, it is actually pretty good but it doesnt mean its the best at everything, there are downsides.

Never say never.

Back in the eighties after a few 70's Vauxhalls I said never again, might change my mind one day.

Can't help being attracted to Fiats and Alfas, but by the end of the 90's I had said never again, still had 2 more Fiats after that and regretted them both. Every now and again I get tempted though, might fold one day.

Had a lot of love for VAG cars in the past even before VAG existed, but I'm currently trying to repair the last VAG car I'll have for a while so I can sell it to some poor deluded fool. I won't buy another until something very drastic changes within their design/manufacturing/customer service ethos.

I wouldn't ever say never to a car on the basis of styling, power, speed etc, everything has it's place in the world, but I hate unreliability.

Don't understand what's wrong with that TBH. If your current vehicle is a Mondeo/Insignia etc. (as for many people it is) then why wouldn't you aspire to owning an Audi S5 for example. Lovely looking thing, made out of better quality materials, more performance etc.

An M4 driver might well aspire to owning an R8 one day, or perhaps an RS7. Again, I don't see what the issue is?

I would never own a Volvo - they are associated with those 65+ years of age with no taste and who can't drive(totally unaware of those around them).I would hope that when I am that age that I will still have some sense of style and avoid crap like Volvos! I guess those that buy them also haven't had their life turn out quite as good as they hoped of they would have bought a premium brand rather than a Volvo.
It's a pretty sad person that judges the outcome of their life by the cars on their drive....

Fair enough, they are good cars. I wouldn't rule out most makes, I would examine, drive and see how I react to a " nearly new" . That said VW/Audi have been " funny money" for some time now, and it wasn't dampened by " dieseigate" Another post says we are blinded to these extortionate prices ,as punters look at monthly repayment only, during a period of low interest.

We live in a very capitalistic and materialistic society unfortunately. Many people define there entire worth as a person purely by how much wealth they've managed to accumulate over the years. This view often goes hand in hand with narrow mindedness and overt arrogance I find.

In the entirety of VAG's portfolio, nothing appeals to you? That's quite impressive smile

But if you lived in a 2 bed terraced on an even 'crummier' estate, what's wrong with that? Do all aspirations need to be pipe dreams in order to meet your approval?

The level of arrogance in you post is breath-taking by the way, truly well done.

Oh, they do have appeal, they are just silly money - speaking of new here- may have lost bulletproof image, but that is because cars now have too many electronic gizmos to chase MPG figures

I meant at the time as you suggested they've done nothing since the MK2 and Sport Quattro. I lusted after a Corrado VR6 back in the mid to late 90's as a 21-22 year old to replace a 205 1.6 GTI but the insurance at the time was ridiculous so ended up in a MK3 16v GTi, which was crap so I sold after a few months. Last VAG car I owned.
