I feel the same about convertibles, just never, not even if I lived somewhere sunny.

As for manufacturers, there are none off limits. Almost every manufacturer has something interesting or has made something interesting in the past. Even Lada.

As far as car types go, no convertibles or anything smaller than a focus as I'm 6ft4 amd need space. Im a fan of SUV's but the smaller micro SUV's like the juke, capture and ecosport I wouldn't go near at all

Vauxhall have completely lost the plot in the last few model generations. None of their lineup appeals to me.

Mercedes benz- again lost their way, too many swoops and lines and gauges trying to be "stylish" and their lineup now is baffling.

Mini - always had a dislike for them and stupid creations like the countryman don't help.

Toyota- boring as hell

Lexus - a bit like MB, Trying too hard.

Suzuki - again boring as hell

Fiat- everything seems to be styled around the 500 now.

Mitsubishi - see Suzuki & Toyota.

I had Vw on my list but quite like the new tiguan and passat so i wouldn't avoid completely.

I love the French hate, have these people actually owned and lived with one?

My Renaultsports were the most reliable of any cars I've owned, my wife's old 206 GTI also didn't put a foot wrong in 2 1/2 years..

I've since replaced her 2013 Ibiza VAG with a New Clio, it's a better car in every way, and cheaper.
my own experience is that the French send out cars with a few screws loose, so they're mostly off my list too.
That said, Dieppe hand build the RS versions to a higher standard, apparently. They certainly seem to survive track abuse quite well, especially when cared for. cars need maintenance shock finding, and actually most track cars do get cared for.

Modern generation JLR is one I just wouldn't buy.

Don't like the pointless bling & assorted crap that they seem to think is necessary. A rotary gear selector is fine, but it doesn't need to pop up and sink down all the time. Air vents in the dash that hide away by swivelling to become blank panels...... Yuk!

And Range Rovers are just becoming more vulgar & bling-laden every year...... No thanks.

I buy the best car for the job and couldn't give a toss who made it or where it was built.

Vauxhall again. Having driven a few as hire cars over the years (Corsa, Astra, Vectra, Insignia) they are all thoroughly awful and so far behind the equivalent Ford in every department it's embarrassing. The Monaro and VX220 don't factor in my head as they aren't really Vauxhalls at the end of the day.

Not sure if satire.

I try not to make broad generalisations about cars but I've honestly never seen a Vauxhall that came remotely close to stirring my loins. They're just uniformly meh.

Otherwise I'd probably consider most brands.
If you dislike them for the looks don't ever try driving the bloody things.

Same for me, it just has to be what I want or need at the time. The only thing I try to avoid is dull colours but if I'm buying used then I can't be too picky.

Never contemplated owning a French car and never will. I just don't like them and they feel cheap and nasty.

Ones I strongly dislike are Audi and Volkswagen. Audis are just so showy and fairly dull blobs to drive. The new Q7 looks like an obese American.
I guess I dislike the owners more than anything? I drive a BMW 430d and I swear 80% of the cars that keep trying to undertake me, race me or just drive aggressively near me are VW Golfs! Mine isn't the fastest car in the world, but maybe they're used to dusting off 2 litre German cars and have little man syndrome in their hatchbacks...

Anything BMW or Mini.

We have a very low mileage (18k in 5 years) 1 series on the office fleet & for the 2nd year running it has cost more in repairs than our senior partners 10 plate Bentley GTC!!

We have various Mini`s too & have done since their introduction & all bar the most recent ones have cost us a lot of money with faults that were down to inferior parts, timing chains, gearboxes, steering motors, leaking high level brake lights, myriad warning lights etc.

Also our local dealer has got worse over the years too.

If ever a thread demonstrated that the days of PH being a forum for car enthusiasts were a rapidly fading memory, it's this one.

In 36 years of car ownership, I have never had a single Japanese model. I'm sure they're worthily reliable, but just find them as dull as ditchwater.

I had an 99MY Impreza Turbo PPP from brand new and it was anything but dull. Horribly plasticy inside and rattled like a good un but always an event. The Honda VTEC thing has never done it for me however. Tried the Accord Type-R, Integra Type-R and my mates S2000 and all felt too much like hard work keeping them on cam and were horribly noisy tat a high speed cruise.

Always fancied an Evo 6 TM Edition and have a GTR itch I feel the need to scratch one day.

Subaru. Every one I have had has had constant reliability issues, mainly to do with the drivetrain. They where also a nightmare to work on.

I absoutely love the BRZ / Toyota GT86 but have serious reservations about it simply because it has a Subaru sideways lump up front although Ive heard the RWD system is much more reliable than the Impreza's AWD.

Just saw a brand new Range Rover Evoque Convertible in white.

Is this the most pointless car on sale?

Vauxhall - their survival suggests they meet a market need, but every example I have driven has been dull and uninspiring compared to the ford alternative that has had a little something making it a bit interesting to drive.
