Great cars, I've had six 306's all in performance flavours, and they were all a hoot.

Gti6's weak point was the cambelt I think, but if it's done fairly early it's fine.

Probably wont own another, I've had my fun with them. Standard ride height is too high, and it's a pain to lower because of the rear torsion bar beam set up.

Probably because of that suspension, these things, along with the 106, 205 and to a lesser extent the 206, can easily throw you backwards through the scenery if you make a mess of a corner. Very tail happy, possibly even dangerously so of driving enthusiastically and unused to the handling.

Eeeek!!! Looks like you did well to walk away from that.
I didnt walk away lol. Shattered the right hand side of my body basically. Someone on the wrong side of the road on a blind bend, I swerved to miss and they smacked my wing. My body therefore was the crumple zone. took 2 hrs to dig me out and the car flipped on it side and and nearly lost my foot.

My right leg is now 2 inches shorter and apart from walking in circles I am not too bad.

I owned an S-plate Blaze yellow PH2 one that I bought in Bradford. It tapped like mad and had clearly had a badly repaired cam belt failure. Tbf to the driveway trader he gave me a full refund. Lesson learned, I was young.

I replaced it with a China Blue Ph3. V995 GRV. Wonder if it is still alive.

Great cars.

Blimey, sobering stuff. Glad you recovered albeit with lasting negative effects though frown

We used to have an 2.0 HDi one of these when my son was newborn baby and used to cart him all over the country in it. I never realised they crashed so badly!

MOT expired in 2018, so probably dead (or perhaps SORN). frown

Prior to the mid-90s, crash safety was treated mainly as a 'regulatory' issue, much like exhaust cleanliness limits are today. European governments would impose certain minimum legal standards, and most manufacturers would (a) engineer their cars to meet the bare minimum as cost- and weight- effectively as possible, and (b) lobby governments and the EU not to impose stricter requirements. French manufacturers such as Peugeot were in the vanguard of the lobbying efforts to hold off regulations for greater protection. Most people didn't go looking at crash test pictures before buying a car, and simply assumed that if it was legal for sale, it was 'safe enough'.

This all changed in 1997 when EuroNCAP released its first batch of crash test results. Suddenly crash safety was a product marketing issue, as important as 0-60 or boot space if not more so. A poor star rating would be splashed all over the evening news and literally kill a model in the marketplace. Lobbying the EU was no longer any help, so manufacturers had to change tack and quickly reinforce their cars, then design a much higher level of crash safety into their upcoming models.

Absolutely loved mine back the day, that yellow colour that not many liked. 6 speed at a time when virtually no one else had 6 gears.

Don't get to drive my GTi6 as often as I want. Sometimes I do consider selling it as it seems a shame not to be using it. Then I see threads like this giving me a kick up the backside to get out in the old girl!

Peugeot’s recommended change duration was 36,000 miles or three years. Most did it at 30k miles or three years regardless just to be safe.

I've had a few 306s and have been using my current GTI-6 as a daily commuter for the last 3 or 4 years. I've owned 170+ cars, most of which have been newer and more expensive. Many have come and gone, but I don't think I'll ever be without a 306!

I had a '97 Nile Blue one of these I used as a daily between 2014 and 2016. Was a lovely little car though definitely had it's problems (electrics mostly, though think that was mostly due to the previous owner bodging a repair to the wiring loom after hitting a badger), unfortunately I used it mostly for commuting so didn't really get to experience it's full potential.

Currently sat off the road with a friend who's getting it up to scratch in order to sell, don't want to break any rules though so shall say no more! :S

Unless his Dad’s Qashqai has been to Severn Valley Motorsport, I don’t think they make one with 306 GTI-6 pace

Errr, PH editor. If you are gonna shameless rehash a 4 year old post to fill space on a quiet day, at least read it through first. I mean gti-6 for 1500? And perhaps check if any are available, like not just on PH, but in the UK...?

There are 2 Blaze Yellow ones as well ( or were a couple of days ago )
Are you trying to buy one?
If so, you’ll find ones do come on the market at this level but you need to be quick to get them
