RE: Peugeot 306 GTI-6/Rallye: PH Buying Guide
Discussion
Great cars! I had two, they were a nice alternative to the more popular 172.
The guy I purchased it from said on a track day all the Ferrari owners were saying how much better the 306 handled... take that as you will.
Watch out for a typewriter sound, it will sound like nosey tapers and they are probably bent from a bridges rebuild. Apparently a lot of people mess up the rebuilds on this.

Its a car from 1997, are you sure or pretty sure, and when your dad gets to a corner what will happen then?
Have you driven one, been in one?
This and the ZX version are 2 of the best handling cars ive driven, and Ive got an integrale.
Stupid comment of the day awarded.

7.8 to 60 sounds awfully slow for this weight and power. Pretty sure my old man's Quashqai would smoke this piece of crap. No thanks
These have really disappeared from the road now. There was quite a bit of choice a few years ago - now you'll be lucky to find one.
Last time I checked there was only a handful of 306's on AutoTrader / PH (of any variety), and no 306 GTI-6's to be found at all. Any cars that you do find will have inflated prices due to their burgeoning classic status.
I suspect the Honda Civic Type R (EP3) is a better bet now as there's more about - although that'll become rare in the next few years too.

2 Blaze Yellow GTIs up for sale ( or were ) currently
Not the colour I’d want but still a GTI-6
Something more available with similar performance, weight and handling to the GTI-6 is the ST170
They can also have their niggles though and watch out for rust

Where? The GTI-6 owners club only seems to have had 5 or 6 cars go through their forum in the past 12 months. None on PH, Car and Classic or Autotrader I can see.Not the colour I’d want but still a GTI-6
£1500 seems mighty ambitious for a popular car that basically doesn't exist!

You mean "stupid comment of 2016". Luckily user Rearwheel hasn't been seen for the last 3 years.Have you driven one, been in one?

I’m a big fan of these. I only had the lowly XSI as a company car back in the 90s but I loved it.
When people say cars aren’t as good as they used to be I always think of the 306. Modern hot hatches with all their power are great but they bludgeon their way down a road whereas the 306 would flow. Nothing comes close even now. I don’t think it’s a case of rose tinted glasses either as I recently drove a mint turbo diesel. Despite the agricultural engine once on the move the ride and handling were wonderful. Just how I remembered.
Haven’t seen a good one for sale for a long time and I think most of the engines ended up in 205s.

Yes, correct , 1 on EBay, 1 on gumtree
Indeed, that sounds like a price from several years ago. If I could find a remotely servicable one of these for 1500, I'd be all over it. Possibly not much longer before prices of these start going the same way as 205's.
For what it's worth, ruling out these Pugs on the basis of numbers illustrates everything that's wrong with the motoring in our age. Yes, I'm probably a grumpy old git.

I wonder where the £1500 figure comes from though, the actual sales on eBay suggest that's firmly spares and repairs territory.
The thread is a few years oldYou still see ones going for £1500 and below ....but they tend to need a fair bit doing
Probably a grand more to get a decent runner
Alternative is an ST170 Focus for something of this ilk and performance
One of my favourite cars I had was a phase 3 Hdi. Bought it with some back street remap on it already and was close in performance to my friends standard mk4 golf PD130 though was very smoky.
Only died when somebody smashed into it. Had I think 165k on the clock. Didnt crash well.
As per the last few comments, you just dont see any of them anymore. Used to see them quite often, hatches and estates. Think they have died off. No surprise though as these are from the pre Focus era

Drove a new one as a company car for 30k miles (S750 AGP - Blaze Yellow).
First of the facelifted cars in a silly colour - everyone wanted one.
Drove it like a loon, great company car!
Interior slowly fell to bits, broke the gearbox. Fragile but so so quick.
Great induction roar under right conditions.
Not too scary lift-off.
Had one back to back with an XSi and Xsara VTS.
XSi comes no where near the genuine sub 7 second Gti6.
Xsara tried to copy the magic but didn't.

Was about to post from my experience DO NOT have a bad accident in one of these. They're all sts and giggles. Until they're not.Only died when somebody smashed into it. Had I think 165k on the clock. Didnt crash well.
