Supercars outside ordinary houses

Hilarious how some people plough money into a depreciating asset like a car, but won't put a penny into a decent appreciating asset like a house. Still who am I to tell folk what to do with Their paper.
And not exactly super cars but it does amuse me how on many council estates you'll always see many flash Mercs, audis bimmers Porsches etc.
A mates Dad from years ago had a business with about half a dozen shops, and I think he did a lot of cash deals. And not exactly super cars but it does amuse me how on many council estates you'll always see many flash Mercs, audis bimmers Porsches etc.
He lived in a very rough council estate in West London, and drove a Rolls Royce Camargue.

Christ. That's enough to make we wince. I take it his wheels were always left where the manufacture intended them to be, after leaving it parked? He lived in a very rough council estate in Brentford, and drove a Rolls Royce Camargue.
I live in a council house but im in full time employment(as is my partner). We recently looked into buying the house but at over 300k for a 3 up,3 down,we were turned for a mortgage as we dont earn enough.Im now considering a car as an investment but to also use everyday. It sort of relates to the topic but just wondered what peoples thoughts were.(try not to be rude!)

Dont treat cars as investments. The thread is funny because I still remember reading an article in the 90's in revs/max power/other about a postman who saved up and bought a Diablo - as a young teenager with no idea what I would grow up to be I thought it was "awesome"
so when I got the chance to buy my dream car (8C spider) I just did it despite living very close to the first square on the monopoly board

There was a programme a few years ago about people who bought high end cars but lived in a very modest way, they had the Aston, Ferrari or Lamborghini but lived in almost poverty to just fund the car, it wasn't a case of having a "normal" house, some were struggling to live just to have the car.

Now that's just very sillyIf houses aren't your thing, and wherever you are suits your needs, then fair play to anyone who ploughs their disposable income into a supercar.
You don't owe it to anyone to live up to a certain standard. It doesn't make you a better person to have a big house, or indeed a supercar, so at the risk of sounding rather contrived - you have one life, so live it the way you want.

As discussed in another recent thread, the price of new cars is starting to get silly in the uk.
Imagine being in the position - through maybe a bonus or an unexpected inheritance to be able to spend £30,000 on a car without having to sell your soul.
Brand new, middle of the road mondeo, or an older Aston Martin V8 vantage?
Flush £28,000 of your hard earned down the toilet in deprecation, or have fun in the AM for a couple of years and probably lose a couple of grand. You might even get lucky and make a bob or two.
Its the difference between thinking for yourself, and believing the ste spouted by new car salesmen, accountants and PH 'experts'
