RE: Porsche 968 Turbo RS: PH Heroes
Discussion
Its commonly accepted to mean cars where the engine is in front of the driver and the gearbox is located with the axle behind the driver. A setup which is very much not unique to Porsche but was common at the time to the 928/924/944/968 and real Alfa's before they gave up and became a FWD commodity manufacturer.
I have a friend who owned and raced the black 968 Turbo RS, the one sometimes called bubbles due to the pink and purple graphics on it.
I would have sat on it as a pension fund even if I didn't want to race it. I guess it was just another car to him as he's a trader. I saw it advertised for much more than I think he got for it not long afterwards, and I would hate to think what it would go for now.

The thing I don't quite understand with Porsche vs Ferrari prices is that with Porsche, you can create a 964 RS or 968 Turbo with genuine off the shelf parts for a fraction of the chassis numbered cars. With Ferrari, I don't believe you can so easily.
Example - 968 Turbo can be a 968 CS for £20k + the Speedline wheels, rear wing and turbo parts equating to another £20k. So an example with genuine Porsche parts is 10% of the value of an original chassis number car. Similar story with a 964 RS etc. Try turning a Ferrari 308 into a 288 GTO
Well said. You'd still have a modified 968CS / Carrera 2 rather than a real 968 Turbo or Carrera RS, obviously, but with all of the Paul Stephens/ Singer/ RWB/ Magnus Walker/ even now Ruf rebuilding old cars, does it really matter?Example - 968 Turbo can be a 968 CS for £20k + the Speedline wheels, rear wing and turbo parts equating to another £20k. As for the 308, sadly some people have made attempts to convert them to 288GTOs, mostly in the USA, with unsurprisingly disappointing results.

Terrific cars, way, way under-rated 968's and 944's . I have a lovely 944 in my Fleet and really enjoy using it. Fun, different and quick enough for our restricted roads. Oh, and so economical!
Not under-rated by mags and journos. They spent years telling us they were the best handling cars or best drivers cars
