The MOT history gave me pause. A recent failure on corroded suspension mounts in the proscribed areas, repaired either with a quickness that screams BODGE or taken to a less finickity tester. That and I really out to try and move SL2 on first.

As to the hotness of marital intercourse I was of course using poetic licence. There will be no such unpleasantness. Why else do you think I barricade the house with so many old Mercs?

The online MOT results are a real boon, but I sometimes think that they can be misleading. In the old days, cars failed and we were none the wiser, nowadays we fret over past failures and even advisories. If nothing else, it gives an indication of where to specifically and carefully check, but if it's now got an MOT and the area looks OK, I'd be inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt.

In any case, you know full well that all these old things will need quite a bit of work to get up to any sort of really decent standard and a long MOT at least gives you time to get on top of it before the test excitement re-occurs.

I really like the look of this one. Sorry if I'm not helping, and I'm really not trying to get revenge for the SLC! (Actually, the latter is delightful; reader's car thread updated.)

A tickle over thread budget on the estimate. Looks a cut above the normal flotsam and jetsam found at this auction house, such as ratty non-idling SLCs and so on. Very impressive MoT history with one advisory in 13 tests!

The shortest ad in history. Could be very unlovely. Or ok. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

I like that for some reason. Especially the wheels

Are they a custom set - they look a bit like the R129 launch 15 hole wheel welded to a dish rim. Quite fetching, actually.

I agree, it's a billionty-six times better. Possibly, very slightly more.

Ooh, me too. That is utterly delightful.

It has the design gift of looking elegant and beautiful, whilst at the same time showing purpose and looking fairly masculine. I'm possibly talking bks, but I like that. I like it a lot.

Hello old friend:

"My" much-missed 635csi. Technically out of budget for this thread, but spiritually this seems like the right place for it. And it was within budget when I bought and sold it...

Bought early 2010 and sold late 2011. I put the e31 wheels on it. MOT history suggests it's hardly done 2k miles since I parted with it... which doesn't bode well because M30s really thrive on regular use and the occasional long run to clear the cobwebs.

This is the danger of this thread. Yesterday, I wanted that Fiat. Now, it's the beemer.

The answer is, of course, to buy them both.

I'm really tempted by the Fiat. I know I mustn't, but the wantage is strong.

Under thread budget and I can't link directly but with this car, the right girl, the right dog and village cricket near a good pub on a summer's day... life wouldn't get much better.
