With a little love this XJ12 could be rather nice: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-XJ12-series-2-V1...

Does anybody think its strange that hes described all aspects of the car apart from the bodywork ?

Are they the right wheels for it ? They look a little odd ?
The wheels are OE 17 inch "Albali" model - not perhaps the nicest of the range however. Later R129s had 17 inch wheels as standard as the front callipers were Brembo-made, large and highly effective.

Those things are massive in the metal. If I bought that, it would have to come with the caravan too, because that's where I'd end up sleeping.

Ooh, that or the Mk 3 Daimler up-page? What a nice dilemma to have ...

I've been looking for a Pano roof for a few months now, but they're silly money. It'd almost be worthwhile to buy this for the roof!
My friend bought an R129 a few months back for 4K as a project. Sound car in black with cream leather, but needs some TLC. The original bill of sale showed it had come with the optional pan roof. He asked the woman selling (the car was in London) if she still had it? She had divorced a few years back and as far as she could recall, the roof had been stored in a garage at a relatives place. Turns out that this garage was 5 min drive from my friend. I think he paid a few hundred quid for it, plus a couple of bottles of red wine. Lucky does not even describe it.

But just imagine how bad you'd look driving about in that though CDG.

That or a chauffeur who can't find the budget wedding.

Last one I saw was at Bo'ness motor museum, and it's one of those rare "big" old cars that really is still big. Can't imagine it shifts well with that sad old XK engine though, would be a great car for an upgrade to a late 6 litre V12 with a 4 speed auto.

Maybe it's just the angle of the photos, but those sills and doors look like they've got a fair bit of filler in them

The ventilation doesn't look too clever either.

The "888" numberplate would have some value if you can flog it off to someone in the Chinese community, 8 being a lucky number and all that type of thing.

I saw it on c&c earlier (between Zoner & M. DG postings) & sent the guy a mail. Might already be gone! (not to me - I think I’m 2nd as he said he’d ring me tomorrow if it fell through).

I do want one now - been saying it for a while, but with the z4 gone, I’m missing a drop-top...

We’ll see!
Missed out - car is sold - is there an emoticon for darn, bugger & blast? There should be.

The search for a R129 continues... frown

What are your preferences in terms of engine and type - pre-facelift/post-facelift - and roughly what kind of budget?

Preferences? 500 or 600, early gingercator cars (not a hard fail, just preferred) - digital climate preferred.

Colour I’m less worried about, but would prefer not to have silver over black.

Don’t want the 18” amg wheels that the world & their dog seem to put on an SL, but that’s nothing that ebay can’t resolve.

Budget is £flexible... Don’t mind buying ‘cheap’ and restoring, or getting one with the work already done.

Obviously then, I keep coming back to this one. Doesn’t fit all the criteria... https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Can’t decide whether I think that’s good value or not... There was a 600 at 4* classics mid-last year, I was out of the country when it went up, and it’d gone by the time I got back. I’d have had that...

You probably know that one is in the era of the dissolving wiring harnesses, so you would need to know it had all been changed out.

The other night I heard what sounded like a tornado coming my way so I looked out the window to see I kid you not, an elderly Jag XJ slowly making its way down the road. As it was dark and as it was the last car I expected to see round here at night I couldn't be totally sure if it was a series 1 or 2 but wow was it noisy. Are they all like that from outside? I've always had a secret lusting for the series III but haven't got a garage where I could keep it during the 364 days of rain we have each year.

Don't believe that you can get digital climate until the mid 90s facelift at the earliest.

Perhaps we should talk, I've a 99 500 that is of the sorted variety that may tick some boxes for you... In two minds on keeping it as I've done about 3000 miles in 5 years.... PM if interested.
