well since my posts on here earlier this morning - a slow workday has meant i have been taking a good look around AT at 10k-ish mercs

I do like the E500 coupe - but interior wise, the CL 500/600 seem to have the edge for simillar performance - i like the wood / chrome edged interiors and wood wheels - but , for the money you can also step high mileage into a 5 door S CLASS S600 like this!

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202006190...

I'm quote keen on this - and if i'd have looked a few days ago probably would have gone to see it as i was driving through the area - seems like the previous owner kept a log of everything he did.

Might pop over to the MV forums to see if user / owner was on there.
I called the seller about that car and the history is interesting. Not sure their are any invoices to back it up, but it's a very elaborate effort to make it all up. MB history until 2015/6 I think it was, and then a detailed spreadsheet. It'd had one coil pack done, and ABS pulsation damper, but I could see nothing about the ABC pump and they do seem to wear out at 80k - 100k.

Distronic and thus the parking sensors aren't working.

It featured as a Brave Pill last year and was up for £9k, so given the £2500 margin the dealer has I'd have liked the distronic fixed, but he wasn't interested.

In the end I bought a more local car with 20k less miles on the clock for £500 above the asking for that one.
Sounds like this is a better option yes

That seems suspiciously cheap but then how many buyers of leggy V12 AMG uberbarges are there? Most dreamers just buy an S320cdi and badge it as an AMG, run it until an air spring bursts, then leave it at the side of the road on the bump stops to turn green.

thanks for the merc info, saved me a lot of hassle! i don't mind things not working as long as someone is honest and you know what your walking into.... i went a long way once on the absolute dealer assurance the car was showroom condition and it was far far far from it.... I'm sure we all have these stories, but for me it just grinds my gears and i walk away

The armour plate will be irrelevant as bullets can get through the panel gaps.

Interesting new thread but I must stop looking at money pits. Looking and enjoying the thread, though, is there a potential for “Seediest car lot?”

Bloody useful too. I was being tempted by a 4.7 GTS in dark blue with cream interior (wibble). Car was known to need a subframe +.
There are indies (so I read) who sort that and rustproof the rest for a not inconsiderable sum although obviously less than main dealer!
hehe

"my name's Bob and I bought a second hand Maserati"

group: nodding, murmuring, eye contact with one another and the new brethren
^silence^
"welcome"
"your with friends now"
"speak your mind"

"FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, FECK, "
^silence^
^sobbing^

Man hugs all round
"its been 13 days since my last 3 figure bill...............i've got a B service coming up..............i'm not sure how i can get through it..............."
So basically, the same as buying an Alfa... just an order of magnitude or two up! wink

you could go even more basically than that - basically an Italian car.

After my Mercedes searching yesterday, a busy day at work today + job interview this afternoon means i wont be able to do some looking at some fancy A8's - keen on the 6.0 but none aboot - the 4.2 TDI high BHP version seems the best all rounder, but could i really live knowing theres a lovely 6.0 version on all i had to do was wait......
interior wise , since yesterday, i seem obsessed by getting a car with a wood/leather steering wheel combo for some reason !

My heart lies with classics really, and I'm tempted by these despite not being that keen on white cars.

This looks a very good deal to me. Long ownership and a pretty little thing at 6 grand.

I like these old Fiats too, but this one is more expensive and a little tattier.

I can't currently post pictures but both are worth a look.

Surely the market for this must be miniscule?.

Any oligarch will buy new meaning for the budget bargiste you are paying to haul around an extra half tonne of lead plating and inch thick glass.

The only reason to buy this is so you can tell people you have an armoured car. And there are no good reasons why you'd want to be the sort of person who would want to tell people they have an armoured car.

Someone who actually needs an armoured car would buy something very different indeed.

I shudder to imagine the rogues gallery you'd have to cross paths with in order to sell something like this. Which, I suppose, might be why it's in an auction.

I used to live near a garage in Little Haywood, Staffordshire, that seemed to specialise in armoured cars around 6-10 years old. They always had a handful in so someone was buying them, I assumed they went to the skip rats in Birmingham.
