I saw a gorgeous blue one in York at £12k that has since gone.
No idea what it went for, of course, but it wasn't going to be mine at that price. Stunning as it was.

Was that the one that had been given a fairly extensive restore/overhaul with a very thick folder full of invoices and records?

I've been watching that. Isn't it a bit steep considering the ruddy great gouge on the flank ?

Hardly a lot of damage, it looks like a scrape to the plastics which can be replaced/resprayed quite easily, for probably £200-300, certainly less than £500.

I'd be more concerned if the metal underneath is affected.

I think it's a bit steep considering mileage but it looks a like a good example.

Random story:

I actually bought a 500 SEC back in 2010 which featured on Pistonheads in the shed section, it was up for £1,000 initially. I was only interested in the wheels the car had so contacted the owner who wasn't interested in letting the wheels go separately which was understandable. Anyway, she noted my number down and said she would be in contact if she did change her mind, she rang me back about a week later saying the MOT had expired and I could have the car for £250!

Good ones back then were £3-5k. I do miss it even though it was a tatty example, I've promised myself a 560 one day!

I agree. That looks like really superficial damage - just a surface scrape to the plastic.

I think the mileage is actually pretty low for a car of that type and age, but the price might nevertheless be a little high.

However, as they get increasingly rare, good ones can only go up. (Copyright the eternal optimist)

I would rather buy the car with knowledge and sight of some damage like that than have it flashed over for sale, TBH.

This certainly falls into the 'interesting' bracket. I find myself wanting it more and more, the more and more I drink. Funny how that happens.

Careful there, that's how I ended up with my second wife.

I'm so glad it's not just me that looks at increasingly unusual cars.

Trouble is if you look at average street/motorway/car lot it feels to me that we've morphed into something out of Goodness Gracious Me:

"What's the BLANDEST thing on the menu?"

When I was growing up the future held the possibility of lots of exciting shapes and colours. I drew things which, many years later materialised into a TVR Tuscan - everything else seems an anticlimax (although I don't have any regrets on moving back to biking and my K12!)

I've given up expecting there to be affordable, "interesting" everyday cars - the sort you could tell apart: like an Anglia and an A40, a Cortina from a Corsair or a Sunbeam Stilleto from a standard Imp.... Clarkson was in trouble about 25 years ago when he described one Japanese brand as like "white goods" - but he was/is spot on with that one!!!

Seems very well priced compared to other 323s. Manual and in claimed good condition. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-e21-323i-Manual-clas...

I remember just starting uni and almost buying one identical to that. The car itself was £900 and in decent condition but my insurance quote was £1500. My grant couldn't go that far!

I remember reading a magazine when I was young where they had a challenge to buy cars for £1,000 and one team purchased a 323. I was amazed by the size of the engine in a little car and the twin exhausts...

They are selling for much more now!

Perhaps. But it is probably the best version of the Accord Type-Rs

Also the only one of the three within thread budget.

Another old 5 series. With respray and full engine overhaul. A pleasant way to retro around London. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C812525
There's a very real possibility that's a car I used to walk past on an almost daily basis parked down the side of Westminster Cathedral, outside some rather exclusive mansion flat blocks. It didn't seem to move much, but it picked up the occasional fresh battle scar every few months. The rear bumper was stoved in and the panel work behind must've been damaged too.

Definitely an E reg 525e in the same colour, of which there can't be many survivors.
Wasn't the 525e like some 80's bluemotion version?
