What do you drive? How much attention?

In the Disco - no attention whatsoever. Everyone drives them round here, from farming types to school-run mums - so it's just another (tatty) Discovery.
In the MG ZT, it varies.
On the move people seem to sometimes do a quick double-take but generally it doesn't attract too much attention. When parked up at various places I've had comments on how 'nice-looking' it is from random people as they walk past. A wide variety of people of different ages seem to like it visually; as a fairly sleek saloon in good nick and in a good colour (night-fire red).

To an extent, it may not just be the car, but also where the car is that has a bearing on this.
The Caterham gets a bit of attention in the UK, I guess because of the noise it makes, and have often seen people (blokes mainly) turning round to see what is coming, when I am still three or four hundreds of yards behind them.
In the US however it was a whole different ball game, Driving down the strip in La Vagas at night and the hundreds possibly thousands of camera photo flashes were like the ones you see at pop concerts or the start of the Olympics. Even arriving at the hotel there, there were thirty or forty camera men charging about trying to get shots of the guests arriving in limos etc, but when the Caterham rolled up, all them ignored the limos and shuffled down the entrance areas and started taking shots of the Caterham.
On the open roads we had hundreds of cars coming along side with people hanging out of the windows to get a photo of the Seven (with some shouting Its the Prisoner car! the Prisoner car!) The most memorable however was in the tunnel after crossing the Golden Gate bridge going away from San Francisco, when a car seemed to be trying hard to catch us and stay alongside, until we changed down to take some speed off, which resulted in the usual flames and crackling from the exhaust. The car alongside nearly stood on its nose, it braked so hard, and following this there was an almighty bout of emergency braking with god know how many cars involved, but fortunately no collisions. After exiting the tunnel we took the slip to the nearest viewpoint for the Golden Gate bridge, and whilst getting out, the car that had tried to get alongside rolled up, The driver started apologizing, saying he was only trying to get alongside to get a photo, When we asked him why he had slammed on his brakes so hard, he said he heard bangs and saw flames, and thought we were shooting at him!!! Bless him. Ah! our American cousins!

My previous MK3 Scirocco got a fair few looks. Probably because of the colour i think, especially when polished and waxed. I have to admit it did look lovely, if i do say so myself. Never really got much negative attention in particular.
My B9 A4 just gets ignored and blends in with all of the other boring German cars, especially in flat black paint. Pretty much gets no attention whatsoever. Had a few comments here and there but i struggle to even agree with them.

Being 21 and having something that says GTI on the back, I sometimes get chavs trying to coax me into racing. Any chance of a traffic light GP fails when I deliberately set off at a snails pace
Had one tt last week tailgate me through a 30 zone for about two miles then shout 'knobhead' out the window when I turned off doesn't happen often enough to bother me though. Sometimes get thumbs up from people in other Lupos/VWs who know what it is.

Current car - none, it is just a white, mid-range, V6 estate.
Previous car was a relatively newly released SS estate (6.2 V8). I was filling it with petrol one morning when a personalised (that is the polite way of putting it) series 1 equivalent rolled in to the petrol station (series 1s were only 6 litre V8s). I was inside paying when a voice right next to my ear said "Does it go well?" I turned, slightly startled to see a wife-beater clad, thong wearing, tattooed bogan staring at me.
"Sorry?" I replied slightly taken aback, aware the cashier was also looking a bit startled.
"The car. Does it go well?" he asked.
My reply was that yes it did, made a great noise, but used a bit more fuel than the series 1 car. That seemed to satisfy him and I left. making sure to start it remotely and use a bit more throttle than was strictly necessary

In my bright red, slightly modded New Beetle cab, I get the occasional look, but I think that is because they are expecting a girl to be driving it
The Volvo C30 gets looks when I open the boot and people wonder how I'm going to actually fit my shopping in.
I used to love my old silver Focus. It was common as muck - I once was in a queue and counted 7 others within a couple of hundred yards - but that was part of its charm. No one gave you a 2nd glance and if you cut someone up (as if) they wouldn't recognise the car the next day when you did it again (not me obvs).

Bought it to scratch an itch, but one of the things at the back of my mind was the negative perception of them, particularly here on PH.
The reality is that I've been genuinely astonished at how well received that car has been, even had the driver of a cracking defender wander up for a nose about and a chat as I was filling up the other week.
To be fair, it's a particularly clean and well kept example, but still, I was expecting more negative reactions based on what I've read on here.

S3 Elise-a fair amount of attention, usually from children. Not sure if this is a good thing...
Rover 100-more attention and comments than the Elise. Usually from the older generation. Not sure if this is a good thing...
Focus ST170-hardly any attention-it looks like a clean & tidy Mk1 Focus. Occasionally gets an enthusiast comment it's a good example but that's about it.

I've got an RX8 with stainless exhaust which usually has anything remotely sporty try a traffic lights GP which can get a bit tiring after a while, revving it to 10k generally will produce flames so I'm not sure what people think, probably depends on the person.

I had the same thing with mine, and with my E34 M5 and B5 RS4. Very very rarely did anyone seem to give any of them a second glance. I did get asked where I had the roof of the CSL wrapped once though The MINI GP1 is a bit different as you know, and mine is still debadged and standard. People usually ask me about the rear wing first, and then get very confused about it not having any back seats. As I'm quite tall they invariably jump to the conclusion that I've removed them myself

In the Alpina, I get a lot of attention, principally due to the fact E34's are a very rare sight - especially when in good order and dressed in Alpina stripes. Points, nods and waves is all good to me
My old E30 Alpina was by far and away the most attention seeking car I've ever had. People would point, kids would point and smile, and I had people nearly crash into me while taking pics of it. Almost without fail when refueling someone would ask what it was, despite the fact the 3-series is a pretty recognisable shape and it had Alpina stickers and badges all over it Even white van man would slow down to let me out, always with a thumbs up!My Citroen C6 is an odd one. It gets the occasional doubletake when someone doesn't recognise it, or a proper stop and stare when someone does, but generally it just blends into the background as 'just another saloon'.
The MX5 used to get more notice, but that's probably due to the supercharger whine and pops and bangs on the overrun (I wonder how it'll sound with the V8 in it )
