What do you drive? How much attention?
Discussion
My cars have never attracted much attention. Even my 928 I would have thought there'd be more folk who appreciate such a fine car, but not much. That changed a bit when the exhaust note changed, and I suppose it attracted some attention. I think as time goes on there are less car folk too, younguns don't care much.
Then a couple of months ago I got my '78 Lincoln Town Car. Unbelievable, thumbs-up, folk shouting at, youf throwing weird gang style hand things, you see a group of people, one sees it turns and says something to the others and everyone turns around. I was worried being LHD maybe I was wandering over the line due to the beeping of horns, but I'm not. I've had kids mouthing WHAT'S THAT?!, I've heard kids asking why it's so long, photos, etc, it's ridiculous, and always positive.

I run an R171 SLK 55 AMG daily. Black on black (I'm not a gangster), with an x-pipe and secondary cat delete. It gets a lot of attention mainly for the noise. I can guarantee at least once a day I have somebody try to initiate a traffic light GP, but I can't be arsed. Quite often hear 'nice car mate!' or 'go on, rev it!' from the pavements too.
Often chuckle when I see other AMG drivers (particularly C63's) who spot me and try to make some noise, only to be drowned out by mine Good fun. With the x-pipe it really is a dirty, thunderous noise. Not a lot comes close IMO.

Bright red "99-spec" Mazda RX-7 on Rays Mazdaspeed MS01.
Countless young children walking along holding parents hand will point. I've heard it called a Ferrari a couple of times by people that age. They like the popup lights. (So do I, seriously why did they stop)
A few thumbs up from teenagers, which is pretty weird as I didn't think it was as well known with the younger generation, compared to when I was that age and playing Gran Turismo on PSX.
A few years ago, on my commute in to work there's a bus stop I pass that picks up school children, and a few of them would wave every morning, and I'd flip the lights, but they probably just did that to nearly every car that went past out of boredom.
But yeah, forget the white van with 'Free Candy' written on the side, get a Ferrari, or if you're poor, a red FD.
Actual encounters include a scary looking chav type cross the road to my window as I was stuck in town traffic, and tell me something like 'nice one' for not getting the RX-8 because they're st and these are sick, or something.
A kid on our road waiting for me in the street on the way home to take pictures on his phone. One do something similar but step out into the road so I had to stop, nobody behind so I didn't mind. I guess I must look scary or anti-social because it would be cool if they came and knocked the door to have a closer look etc.
Most recently, and I have this on video but I need to seriously bump the audio and remove the hiss to hear them; two absolutely bladdered middle aged men standing outside my house at about 1am, on the phone asking where someone's house was, and while they were waiting for an answer they said "I'd love one of them: What is it?: It's one of them drift cars innit, I'd love to drive one of them"
The weirdest meet was filling up at a fuel station before a track day, and a guy maybe in his 20's in a Toyota GT86 comes over and says it's his dream car. Went to fill up fuel yesterday, a month later, and he's there again, and we're both at the exact same pumps as last time. Funny and awkward!
A few people have stopped me outside of work to ask me about it. A few delivery drivers have asked about it when it has been sat on the drive.
Got some CCTV footage of two people walking past the office car park, walking in and taking pictures. They'd have probably been extremely disappointed by the quality of the paint as they got closer sadly. And the fact I never wash it.
But this is over 8 years of daily driver ownership. Mostly nobody gives a fk.

Z4 coupe. Tends to get stared at by petrol heads, usually in a favourable way. Occasional stares by non petrolheads who probably wonder what the hell it is. Of comment from kids of "nice car". Occasionally get a wave or flash from other z4 owners. Seemingly invisible to police. Owners of German 4x4s and some large saloons seem to enjoy tailgating me, which when you already sit at the back of the car can be quite disconcerting.

Children point and smile. (probably because they think it's a ferrari and don't know any better yet)
Exactly the same experience here. If it's red, wideish, lowish, looks fastish, and especially if it has popup lights, it's a Ferrari to anyone about 10 and under.Children point and smile. (probably because they think it's a ferrari and don't know any better yet)
Not as glamorous or interesting as some of the other cars on this topic but my Golf R Estate has generated a bigger reaction than I was anticipating.
The positive reactions are from people who want to know what it actually is (as a result of only a single R badge on the back) and then want to know what engine it has etc. All of which I am more than happy to indulge in.
The negative reactions seem, unfortunately, to be caused by the 4 exhaust pipes at the back. I don't know why but they seem to be more obvious on the estate version compared with the hatch (imo of course). Certainly, the car seems to go unnoticed generally on the road but if you overtake or find yourself in front of, in particular, a young male driver they seem desperate to race you. In fact, I observed some of the worst driving I have ever seen by some young lads in a diesel Audi A3 who were intent on speaking to me. This led to them overtaking in the most ridiculous way before stopping ahead of me by blocking a busy roundabout (at rush hour) just to ask me whether it had 300hp. A little embarrassing to say the least.
The offending items above in all their glory. I do wish the Golf R had the centre pipes like the Mk5 and Mk6 Golf Rs rather than the 4 pipes.
In the past my liquid yellow Megane R26 used to garner a lot of attention. Children loved it and would point to it as you drove around but anyone else above the age of, say, 18 seemed to detest it. In the end, 18 months with the car was enough and it had to go. Shame really as I loved the car and the colour but not sure I could do such a lairy colour again.

2014 focus zetec s goes unoticed and so it should really.
Yamaha r6 plenty of attention everwhere i go, weather its just the noise that draws them in to look or the actual bike.
Nothing gets as much attention as this thing tho
Its unreal the amount of attention it gets, its got the standard can on it aswell so its almost silent too.

Current: Z4 Coupe - not a lot that I've noticed, a few cursory glances, smiles etc.
Previous:
Clio V6 - Every time I drove it. Photos taken when parked up, people wandering up for a chat, wanting to have a look round it, I even found two kids on the driveway once having a look round it. I had dashcam footage of a kid posing for a photo with it. It was stared at everywhere it went. Some knew what it was, others, no idea. I was asked on several occasions "did you build it yourself", they looked in disbelief when told Renault made it like that. My girlfriend hated the attention it got.
Clio 172 - Nothing, absolutely nothing.

Quite a fan of these. Makes a change from seeing the hatchback every 2 minutes. Exhausts seem to suit that rear nicely IMO.The positive reactions are from people who want to know what it actually is (as a result of only a single R badge on the back) and then want to know what engine it has etc. All of which I am more than happy to indulge in.

Would take it over the hatch in a heart beat.

Lotus Elise. Small boys turn and stare, thinking I am a rock star. Most other people just think I look like a c**k.
I never noticed much attention to either S1 or S2 Elise and yet conversely in adding a roof and a wing, the Exige got a huge amount of attention by contrast.Evora gets a lot of head turns and camera phones held up.
MX5 - I don't notice many looks, about the same as when I'm in something else and see people looking at standard MX5s. Getting more acknowledgements from other younger MX5 drivers lately, usually something slightly modified. Just as many standard MX5 owners just ignore you, half of the older hat wearing variety are probably MX5 OC members and will wave out.
Most intent looks seem to come from people in highly modded Japanese stuff, mine isn't that really but I guess it the way it sits stands out as something reasonably sorted (now better than my profile pic, camber was all wrong), and some will know what the wheels are (Wedssport JDM yo!)
C-Class - bought it recently to replace a V60, which was fairly invisble but seemed to be appreciated with unusual Seashell met w/ soft beige interior combination.
As an AMG Sport Plus with rear tints I expected more negativity, I've wondered what people I've overtaken thought, but it's pretty non-descript really, I guess my driving helps. The few looks I have noticed seem to be appreciative.
