I bought a Merc CL last year and honestly, it gets as little attention as my old S Class did. People really don't seem to bat an eyelid at it, which I think is quite nice.
Absolutely love these. Got to admit i keep looking at them on ebay. biggrin

I am lucky to have quite a few cars to drive around in my little fleet, and the difference in looks/attention/positive/negative comments is quite funny.

Citroen DS19 Pallas - i get overwhelmingly positive interactions with this car. People will stop you in the street, or at the petrol station and tell you their stories and reminisce about times gone by and absent friends. I had one woman come up to me in my local Shell and tell me she was born in the back of a DS!

Yeti. I live in the country so every fourth or fifth car around here is a 4x4 Yeti. Noone bats an eyelid, and you are let out of junctions.

B7 RS4 - to almost everyone it just looks like a normal audi estate, no real feelings either way from anyone on this car.

599 - I get the most negative attention in this car, have been called every rude word either verbally or in sign language - was even approached by a guy in a Waitrose car park who had just got out of a 69 plate Range Rover to address me on my attitudes towards global warming. Glass houses and all that?

You get the odd bit of positive feedback - I've even met a guy who has become a good close friend in a Shell garage talking about this car. The keen car enthuiasts also look inside and see that I've converted it to manual and that usually sparks a techy car nerd chat.

Overall though - negative for the most part.

993 Turbo - whilst you don't get let out of junctions apart from by keen motoring enthusiasts and PHers, people don't really care either way or see it as anything other than just another 911. So a good smoker if you wanted a daily without the attention

Vantage - people seem to appreciate britishness / Aston Martin and you get let out of junctions a lot - flashes of headlights and waves (I am assuming not warning me of radar vans but in a friendly sense). Only had one negative comment "flash " as I was driving through a town a few years ago. I have also met another chap who has become a good friend in a Shell garage talking about this car. Common theme emerging here or do I only make friends at shell garages?

Mrs Ideal Standard's daily driver - you will not get let out of junctions in this. Not sure why. Also the alfa romeo waves that I used to get in my 159 years ago don't seem to apply to this model. Strange.

We also have a diesel Fiesta on a 12 plate as a country runaround which was previously my Dad's car until ULEZ... you will always be let go out of junctions in that.

My ah sprite. Got it last June, and it was actually hard to adjust to the attention it gets!. Lots of people look, and I've had lots stop to say nice car, or similar.

With the weber carb, it's a fairly noisy thing so i guess that draws more attention still.
Is that really a Sprite?
I had a J reg 1971 back in the 80s, I thought they stopped making them in 1971?
P is a bit later..
Or some interesting history, late registered etc?
Nice car btw

It was imported at some point in its history.

It should really have been allocated a plate that reflected it's manufacturing date rather than it's registration date but there have been a few cars where DVLA have fked up the reg plate allocation - either way.

Interestingly there is an AX in RC that is running a XYZ 123E plate on 87 presume some in DVLA said issue it an E plate (meaning E123 XYZ) and it got lost in translation biggrin

Camaro gets attention everywhere. I used it for the school run for a few weeks when I was between-dailies, loads of traffic on that journey so stood still a lot and felt like a goldfish in a bowl. Daughter said lots of people were talking about it in school wondering who’s it was. She didn’t say it was hers laugh

Agree on the camaro I had a metallic orange one (loud colour, even louder exhaust) - had some bloke run across the road to look at it... copper asked me to give it a rev (whilst stuck in traffic).

Now that I have the below I still get a fair bit of (positive) attention

I have a couple of normal cars not worth mentioning, but I have a couple that do attract attention.

"The Flying Carrot" - You literally cannot go anywhere unless you want a conversation. Old ladies love the colour, which is very unexpected. Chavs always want to race if they have a car, or shout "rev it" if they don't. Kids on bicycles ride into lamp posts because they're too busy looking at me. And if I've parked up and am returning to the car, I'll often find people peeking in or taking photos. I regularly have people ask me to take a photo of them sitting in it. And on the odd occasion, I've had random people ask me if I'll take them or their child for a spin. Not a car for shy people!

I also have the old 7-series. This one also attracts quite a bit of attention, but mainly from old gents who remember it from when they had one. Or petrolheads when I'm filling up. And then you get the odd BMW fanboys who wonder why I haven't put it on big wheels and lowered it.

Everywhere this car goes it attracts attention.
Lost count of the conversations I've had with strangers about it but who doesn't have a Mini story, apart from anyone born in the last 20 years maybe? Before that everyone has been in one, learnt to drive in one, had one as their first car, Dad/Mum/Granny/Uncle etc. had one. Gets smiles, waves, thumbs up and headlight flashes on the road and more interest than a supercar attracts when parked up.

Mine don’t get much attention, other than kids seem to point and smile at my MINi GP a bit. RS4 is occasionally spotted by a car enthoooosiast and gets a thumbs up, but not that often

This, on the other hand, got a lot of positive attention wherever I brought it for what was basically an old BMW dog bus in a posh stripey frock

When this is out and about, frequent pointing, laughing, smiles etc and "Are you from the council, here to tidy up these overhanging bushes?" from E-Type Jag owners at car shows...

If caught in a petrol station with time to talk, as with my Acty before, it seems many have a tale to tell about owning similar for work 'back in the day'.

Ok, Murica centric post.

This is my Daily. Just another Pick Up on the roads.
Or, off road in this case.

I see it comes with its own oil well. Just how thirsty is it..?
It averages about 20mpg. That Murican gallons which are 3.8 liters.

Not too bad for a 6.6 liter diesel.

I drive this on high days & holidays. People turn & stare at it a lot.
In Germany, the idea of it being right hand drive leaves them completely perplexed, no idea why.

No, its not being driven on the beach its an optical illusion

Got a huge amount of attention in my Innocenti 120L, mostly because people didn’t know what it was, but also because it looked silly (like the offspring of an unfortunate late night liaison between a Renault 5 and a Yugo).

Kids at my daughters primary school went nuts over my Elise.

Constantly got told what a bad car my TR7 is, mostly by people who had one new in the day.

Current car is an UP GTi which people seem to like.

I drive an i8. Not that special but it’s one of the few interesting cars in my small town so a lot of people notice it. It means I feel the need to drive extra courteously because it’s the sort of place where everyone knows everyone.

It definitely doesn't always seem logical.

White 640d - random people seem to like this car, gets positive comments from family members, work colleagues, strongly suspect they think it's worth a lot more than it is. Other drivers see a big sporty-looking BMW so you mostly get grudging respect rather than obvious friendliness but not much overt knobbery.

Tatty blue Mk1 TT with white wheels - gets some smiles, kids like it, people definitely think it's hilarious when I (6'3", 17st) get out of it, but gets much more aggressive driving around it than anything else I've driven.

Two silver 330Ci convertibles - get smiles and occasional positive comments, mostly only drive them with the roof down in good weather so everyone is in a good mood anyway, people let you out. One had straight piped exhaust when I bought it, that got a certain amount of attention positive and negative, better now with slightly calmer sports exhaust.

Grey E63 Estate - very rarely gets any attention on the road (debadged, so it's just a boring grey box), pretty sure people notice the noise at full throttle, but they're usually quite small by that point so no idea what form that takes. The odd positive comment about the noise from people at the tip and other random places, techs in garages like it too. When our very meek neighbours were recently complimentary about how quiet the 640d is I'm pretty sure they were actually making a point about this one.

Dark grey BMW 550i - for some reason people seemed to make positive comments about this one at night, must have been something about the way the lights were set up. Obviously everyone is *very* polite around you on the motorway when you're driving a dark coloured 5 series. I bought it specifically because it looked dull, and it seemed most people agreed.

Silver-green Toyota Avensis - literally nothing. No comments, no aggro. Just a six-year shrug.

Black Seat Toledo - also nothing, apart from people testing their lights in the reflection on the back.

Silver Rover 200 - weirdly the most universally positive comments of anything I've owned. I suspect this had something to do with the people I hung out with at the time, but at the time it was relatively smart and modern-looking inside and out without being obviously flash, and it's quite a cute shape. Also the last car I washed regularly, so that might have helped.

I drive the car below…I took it for a spin today and, as usual, It got A LOT of attention. Thumbs up VERY often, people take pictures all the time, I can’t think of the last time someone didn’t chat to me about it at a petrol station. I’ve had quite a few cars that draw attention but this one beats them all…I think the combination of modern sound (pops, bangs and flames) and the 60’s styling make if a magnate for the old and young. I love it and the attention it gets!
