Have people actually read the original post?

Whats the fastest point to point car that YOU have driven, not what is the fastest point to point car.

I doubt there is anything between my Mk1 MX-5 and my current GT86. I imagine I was slower in the T350 as I was less willing to thrash her for long periods.

A 9ff- heavily modified 997 turbo with around 900bhp.
Sadly a pdk box so it doesnt count.

In the dry either of my Caterham R500s. In the wet the 911 Turbo S.

The 911 tt didn't stand a chance of keeping up with the R500(s) on track, but up here in the Highlands, with variable surfaces, wet, dry, and roads that'll allow faster speeds (much faster than the top speed of the Caterham), the turbo s won every time.

Caterham much more fun of course.

Yes cars like Evo 9 Gt, Impreza S202, Spec C and type 25 are the ones I'd chose, have driven more powerful and more expensive stuff that would not keep up (eg driving on an unfamiliar twisty/bumpy B road point to point these cars very impressive).

Been done years ago. I have one smile

These aren't actually very high now, modern cars are huge. My 02 looks low down compared to quite a few hot hatches etc, and the Porsche Macan Turbo mentioned already, would offer far superior visibility.

The simple fact is that because you can see so much more ahead of you, earlier and for further, you are taking much lower risks for the same manoeuvres and pace.
All good points. To add, when cresting a brow (of which there many on our roads) a low-slung car means you're still waiting to see over the crest and if it's clear to get on the power, when cars with higher ride height are disappearing into the distance.

Another evo vote. Point to point there mad but there in lies the problem they encourage you to drive like a cock all the time and if you drive any other way it's massively compromised.

Poor ride
Hard clutch
Shocking mpg
Poor build quality
Etc
Etc
Etc

I'm afraid your all wrong biggrin the answer for A & B roads is the usual which is the Ford Transit fitted with the 320bhp 400lbft ecoboost engine you can buy as standard in the US, with a chance to see over hedges & some decent handling in M Sport form it would be hard to beat.

Point to point in real-world conditions is a well set-up, decent engined SUV. Low slung sports cars would suit motorways, tracks etc, but not windy B roads with limited viz.

I'm also slightly disturbed by those who need a paddle shift to drive faster, I'd rather less competent drivers drove slowly.
Fact is MOST paddleshifts ARE faster.

GT3 PDK S changes in 9 milliseconds, GT3 RS 6 milliseconds.

driving
  • 6ms* ? rofl You really think a pdk box can change gear over 150 times per second?
The real figures that I can find are 95ms, so you are only out by a factor of 16.

Not in this case an unladen weight of 1.6 tons as I said in M Sport form the yodel driver will be having wet dreams lol.
