I'm 99% sure that this is not how the BTCC rules run regarding 4wd. I learnt this from Thorney Motorsport for the short time they ran a Insignia VXR, I asked which they would be going for FWD or RWD as the VXR is 4WD they said they are constrained to only what is available in the car category, so because every other insignia trim level is FWD they had to go FWD, so if it is 4wd they will still have to go FWD as every other civic is FWD.I recall reading an interview with Matt Neal (Honda BTCC driver) where he hinted that the new car would have 4WD, which would give them the option with the race car to run it in a RWD configuration (as previously happened with the Audi A4 I believe).

•Xtrac 6 speed sequential-shift gearbox and differential
•AP Racing carbon clutch
•Drive-train layout (i.e. front or rear wheel drive) as per base vehicle
•4WD base car keep engine orientation as production which defines driven wheels

Snow happens in Europe too, if AWD is your thing buy one of those but even then I drive AWD and RWD, I would NEVER make a Type R AWD.
