What's with all the 'wagon' requests? Has this site been taken over by our American cousins??
I'll have mine in estate form thank you very much.......... wagon's are for horses!!!!!
"A Wagonette Shooting-brake type thing" my old Man would call them. Never understood what WTF he was going on about when I was 7.I'll have mine in estate form thank you very much.......... wagon's are for horses!!!!!
I must admit as much as a lot of newer Mercs are a little chintzy I'm very much sold on this new E63.
I guess the whole AWD decision was to give the car the quite incredible 0-60 time and then the RWD setting is so that it can be considered an AMG in the old skool sense of the word. It's a shame they've called it 'drift mode' as it seems a term that the Barryboys seem to knock one out over. I didn't see the appeal in the Focus RS, a car I'm not keen on but it's performance is impressive so on a high end super barge it cheapens it a little.

Great car, but am I the only one that thinks the C class looks like it's melting? A bit droopy?
No, its horrible in saloon and coupe form. The stats and new 2WD feature are very pleasing and AMG always make lovely engines BUT...I'm just can't see who would buy this.
I'm glad they are making it and it does a great marketing job as a halo product but I can't imagine who would choose this over an S Class, or CLS, Shooting Brake etc.
Mind you, give it 10 years and I'll change my tune as they drop into my price range.

Has someone been watching Fast and Furious before deciding on the interior illumination?
I assume you can change the brightness and colour of the interior illumination a like on the S class if you're not a fan. I personally quite like it though! Maldini35 said:

Somebody who wants a super car fast, luxurious, saloon car with accessible performance? Maldini35 said:

The same people who buy a 50k A45 over a 30K M140i or Focus RS, the people who want the badge. Otherwise I'm sure the RS6/RS7 would be so much better and much more practical. See this is why I like AMG over the M / RS options.
With the M cars, there's this incredibly dull pretense that it's a finely honed driving machine for the incredibly discerning driver that every golfer is where track times are so important and it's all about finesse and poise.
With RS cars, it's about all weather point and squirt stability and ensuring you can tailgate anything in any conditions at any speed with absolutely no effort whatsoever.
With AMG, it's about putting a glorious sounding V8 in it and bonfiring the rear tyres, because that's fun. There can be no justification whatsoever as to why this rear wheel drive mode exists, other than for smoke based amusement. Fantastic. Is Tobias Moers actually Australian?
Given the E Class has been available in 4WD in other markets for a while now, i think you are perhaps over praising AMG. At the end of the day, they couldn't make the numbers work for a RHD 4WD car rather than AMG being a bunch of absolute lads who insist on RWD 'cos you can drift...With the M cars, there's this incredibly dull pretense that it's a finely honed driving machine for the incredibly discerning driver that every golfer is where track times are so important and it's all about finesse and poise.

Fair play though, they've thought of a USP (gimmick?!) with the switchable 2WD/4WD, but surely the realisisation is 600bhp doesn't work as an every day car with 2WD. I remember BMW released a european only 550x (or something like that) in 4WD only for the same reason - too much torque for Joe Bloggs to deal with.

My MB is over 600bhp...and it's extremely easy to drive as an everyday car. Before you say that even in damp conditions if you floor it you just get wheelspin..well, yes. But then the standard 550bhp model did that. hondansx said:

On reflection i do wonder if merc have done this because the RS6 has become a halo daily driver car for many of the youtubers getting a huge amount of coverage, even shmee used one for the gumball

The M140i and RS are both slower and softer than the A45, and the interior is in a different league to the focus especially. Nearest rival is the M2, which with a few options is the same price. The Focus RS500 due in the next year or so will be a closer competitor, but is also estimated to be £45K car.SWoll said:

From what I hear from friends that own the A45 and another that has the Focus RS, the RS is apparently a much more driver focused car, whereas the AMG is the one that feels softer.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
