RE: Skoda Octavia vRS 230 Estate: PH Fleet

...no CD slot in the glovebox - it's got the media drive in there but only 2 SD card slots, no CD slot (unlike my previous diesel VRS).
I don't do the whole Iphone thing or facebook or any of that, I'm old fashioned and like CD's - my collection is sadly now defunct
My other cars are an Elan +2, a S2 Alfa Spider and a 1965 Mini so you van probably tell I'm no yoof!

Lotobear - we have the exact same car as you. Picked ours up as an ex-demo last month so it has a lot of kit - inc a CD/DVD player. Turns out you have to have the upgraded nav to get one - bit cheeky really. Agree with your observations in general too... Re DSG, I tend to leave it in normal and use the paddles if I want to make progress. Quite like the exhaust "fart", although the novelty may wear off for what it is though, I couldn't think of anything to beat the mix of pace, price, space and kit. A Leon Cupra with 280PS would have been nice, but my wife preferred the 230, and it's her car...
Triple 8,
Funny though as my previous VRS had exactly the same satnav system, but with a CD slot/player so they have definitely taken something away and kept quiet about it (which is annoying)
What first attracted me to this car was, believe it or not,the colour! I'm on my second meteor grey estate and a lot of folk around me don't even realise I've changed it. It's a great car though and even the extreme alloys have grown on me! I like the slight anonimity of a Skoda, especially sporting versions (call me an inverted snob if you like, there's perhaps a little truth in it!)

Definitely a harsh move to take out the CD player, and not allow one as a standalone option. We love the grey too - whilst subtle it does attract positive attention from fellow petrol heads the wheels are definitely growers, and certainly can't be accused of being boring!
To answer the previous poster's question about an AWD option, that was only available on the diesel vRS for short time. 230 and 220 petrol models are FWD only.

While I've got the attention of Skoda owners who know their infotainment systems (!), I use Google Play for my music but Bluetooth doesn't let me play any. Presumably if I don't have MP3's on the actual phone's memory, I can't stream my music? (If so, I might as well just get a large SD card and fill it with MP3s...)
EDIT: Is there any point to getting an AMI cable if I have an Android phone? The phone bit works fine with bluetooth, I can use the ciggy lighter to charge the phone and the SD card slot for MP3's if I have to... is there any benefit to shelling out £20 for an AMI cable, or is it money for old rope?

Well, mine magically developed the dreaded Buzzing Noise in the B Pillar. Bugger.
Fortunately, my local Skoda place traced it to a vibrating fuel pipe, and stopped it with a clip.
Total price for the fix? £9.47. I am a happy pointer again.
Posting about it here in the hope it will help others.
