Anyone had a lease car remapped whether it be a tuning box or ecu remap?

Particularly a VW or anything from the VAG group

Happily for us and unhappily for you, this is a discussion forum.

Read the contract under "Modifications"

The car basically isn't yours to modify. Not do gooder, just sense.

Question seems to be lacking in it.

My suggestion would be not to do it. You wouldn't rent a car then go remap it. Leasing is long term renting.

Of course you can't remap it. It's not your property to make changes to.

Surely that's obvious?

big no no with lease cars.

Lease companies generally have water tight contracts which don't allow mods.

Out of interest what car is it? You do know that if it's a golf r there's the td1 flag to get around

Oh you're all so very naughty commenting on this thread when OP has told you that you can't.

Its not a Golf R and JB1 is undetectable

If you're not interested in the ethical or moral implications then what relevance is there to even SAYING it's a lease car? wobble

Do it, lease the car and get it remapped - won't be a problem.

Possibly, anyway, yes

The relevance is he wants to know if anyone else has been caught out tinkering with someone else's property, and what the cost implications were.

OP, things will probably be fine for you unless it all goes wrong, let's say you crash it, or the engine goes bang, they are going to be looking into why, and you won't be able to remove all traces of this remap.

So if you are not asking about the contractual side of things you must be asking about the technical side of things.

Yes you can remap a lease car the same as a purchased car. - It's not like pay as you go phones and contract phones having different software on them.

If you are asking about the morals and contractual side of doing this why do you only want people to answer who agree with you?
Because you're a fragile little poppet?

Why would you want to spend money on a car belonging to someone else?

My neighbour lent me his Defender a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I should remap it

This.

Why would you want to remap a car that doesn't belong to you anyway.
