No more of a death trap than any other 80s or early 90s small car.

Terrible shed, but well written article. Someone has been on the Friday lunchtime beers I think smile
not really, no roll over protection, massive structural change and made in the midlands, probably.

Shirely this is more like it?

Can't help thinking you could be on to a little earner if stick a portaloo in the back and rent it out for garden parties?

That is a brilliant shed!

So horrible that it's somehow great!

And you'd never struggle to find it in a car park! laugh

Shed's job is 30% consumer advice, 70% entertainment - this really is something different. Well done. We don't need to be told that a 400,000 mile 5 series can be bought for under a g every single week, despite what some seem to think.

One of these used to live somewhere near me; I may have seen it 20 times, and never once with more than the driver aboard.

Not perhaps the best way of reminding people that the Metro was a landmark car - but we'll take what we can get.

Compared to other small cars at the time (the supermini hadn't really been invented so we're talking Fiesta, R5 and Nova) it was a LOVELY drive - it rode and handled better by a country mile.

I saw some kids around a 100 at a car meet recently - the (new) owner was telling them he'd gotten it from a old man (it was really tidy) and how he was going to 'slam and tint it'. I suggested he was actually going to RUIN it but go ahead, it would just make the other remaining cars more valuable. Seen it a few times since - no mods yet - fingers crossed he doesn't fk it up(*)

(*) there's a growing interest in retro 'factory' cars in the local car community - quite a few nice old Polos and Fiestas which are factory and mint - I like this a lot.

Fair comment, but at least other drivers will give you a wide berth and you're doing something wrong if you manage to turn it over hehe

Regarding the (old?) Top Gear comments, I wonder how hard it would be to track down all the remaining chairmans (there can't be many about surely?) and then stick some touring car drivers in them, possibly with the controls moved to the rear for extra comedy value and then stick them on a race track, seems the most obvious thing to do in my eyes.

Great choice. Do you have a site where we can follow your breakdowns, sorry progress?

Its just a shame you can no longer sell the car in mongolia.

I wouldn't have done it, if I had to bring the car home too.

Which route you taking? hopefully the "southern" rather then just running through Russia.

Any updates on this? Would love to see pics of it majestically loping across the Steppe.
