In keeping with the modern theme of cars becoming bloated, I can't believe an Exige is now over 1000KG. Just seems wrong.
It's the lightest V6 Exige yet.

You try putting a supercharged larger capacity engine in a sub-tonne car!

Can you really say a car weighing 1066kg with a V6 3.5l engine is bloated?

The new light weight MX5 is 1058kg with 2 litre 4 pot, smaller wheels/tyres etc....

I guess what I'm saying is I always thought of the Exige as being a small sub 1000kg pocket rocket. It's an awesome looking car don't get me wrong and I bet it goes like fk. Just never thought I'd see the day an Exige would be over a tonne.

Just wanted to point out one thing; the Ultima GTR has a big v8, and it weighs 990kg, according to google.

It's been >1000kg for a few years now...

It was a decision made as the last car had exhausted its development potentially. More weight now but a huge amount more performance with the bigger engine. This car has TWICE as much power as the original Exige.

quite right, indeed! series 1 & 2 exige were under a tonne. As soon as the v6 came in, it was over a tonne.

Dealer already has my email. Hopefully the price to switch from my current v6 exige won't be too painfully. Fingers crossed I can make it work out with man maths.

Flipping awesome!

I quoted andy_s because of the reference to the Sports series. I was thinking that if Lotus had gone ahead with the Esprit, they would now be competing directly with McLaren's Sports series (570S & GT). Chances are they'd struggle to beat what McLaren are doing now. However what Gales is doing at Lotus is brilliant. Take the excellent cars they already make, and exploit their full potential.

Especially given that the outgoing 1.8 litre four cylinder Exige was over 900kg. I suppose the closest thing to this in terms of weight reduction would have been the 260 Cup, which was 890kg. It's not just the old car with a bigger engine, though, the whole rear of the car is different (wider, stiffer), bigger wheels, tyres and brakes, etc.

Why on earth have they gone with Nitron?
