I saw one, with lpg fitted, for thread budget. Unfortunately it was the undesirable scheme (to me) of black/black, but it could well have been one of the only ones in existence!

this thread really is just a nice big mug of tea and a chocolate hobnob in a forum full of stress, bravo gentlemen (although it does mean I am now willfully neglecting my current car in the hope that there'll be too many things that need done come service time in a month or two and I can join your ranks)

This looks fantastic. Slightly over budget... http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C894260

It is fantastic. I know it. I have not seen a better 126.

Welcome. What catches you eye?

Looks like a nice thing to bumble around in, carrying the hound. (Photoshop notwithstanding.)

Orthopaedic backrests in 1987. Wonderful.

I've noticed that too, - it's like a different forum.

I've had sporty, manual, cars ever since I first started driving, - the barge I brought a year and a half ago is the first I've owned of it's kind, and it has changed my driving style smile

Ain't that the truth. My LS400 is the perfect antidote to the pace of London. Soothes the soul rather than ignites it, and that is just fine.

It's pretty much loaded. I thought slightly over would be £6,000....good spot all the same

The gold 126 is lovely. The SWB 4-door with air con is a pretty rare combo: in decent nick is much rarer again.

I know where you're coming from, - I have an LS430

Rather than getting frustrated about reaching the destination, I enjoy the journey. Delays, traffic jams, - no problem.

A big thing for me as well is the sound proofing. A 4 hour motorway journey in my old S2000 left me knackered, - 4 hours in the LS430 and I'm as fresh as a daisy

What a lovely comment!

Just tell yourself that these cars are not depreciating. Such logic leads to a collection that drains your wallet though...

Was it on this thread that someone posted the Japanese one with the covered rear wheels and the different wheels? It looked fantastic.

edit for pic;

That does look fantastic. I wonder if through manipulation of the offsets or rear suspension those spats might be made completely flush.

Great wheels. They'd look good on lots of things.
Every house had some in the days before wheelie-bins wink

Is there a similar thread "man" for fixing the oily bits on w124s? I live in Bath and I've seen a couple of local (ish) places with reasonable prices and reputations but interested if there are other options.
While your car is in Gateshead, you might want to send it to Baister at Staithes Garage, just round the corner. While undoubtedly sloppy in oh-so-many respects, nobody can better diagnose and repair Mercs of this vintage than him. And he's cheap. I have a chum who drives his 107 up from London, gets the train back, then returns a few weeks later to collect. You just have to hassle him a lot about deadlines.
I'm confused - I thought Baister / Staithes was "the man" with regards body and oily bits? So it's a double act? (Asking for a friend).

That's an absolute steal. I thought the 3 months wages' 850's were long gone.
Even for the rough/Cat D 40's are 34K.

Wonder if the vendor has any use of a 996 C4....!?

That 850 is beautiful... but is it me, or are the back wheels oddly cambered?

A dodgy double act. Paul is the Man for bodywork, Baister for mechanicals, although Baister's mechanical expertise is a thousand times Paul's bodywork expertise and that is not to knock Paul.

I was there today. In one and the same breath he was abusing his apprentice son and complimenting Zoner's second 129. "fkin' stone mint underneath, like".

The gold 126 has to be seen to be believed. An over-used phrase but appropriate here: it is 100% museum quality. If it were a 560 it would be £20k all day long. I've some pictures of the engine bay, I'll try to dig them out.

Isn't the 850 a sad reminder of how elegant top notch motoring once was. What is going on? Why is it all psycho-aggression these days?

Edit: here it is. This was on an ordinary wet day. Not prep'd for some car show or anything like that.

I've had mine over with the North Eastern double act too. Happy with them both and will likely send the "new" one over when funds permit.

The e31 has long been a favourite of mine. A family friend had two 850s in the early nineties. In the less salubrious region of Northern Ireland and aged around 10, it was like seeing something from another planet.
