I'm tempted to keep this one to myself but realistically it's not going to happen.

But illuminating critique most welcome.

Jesus Christ, Chief. Just tell me about the bloody car already. I would rather make love to my own eye socket than buy a car from someone like this.

Sorry, but it's just how I feel. (!!)
What a massive throbber, more from the ad:

"The slightest prod on the throttle will result in this elegant behemoth surging forward with alacrity, emitting a muted, cultured, yet uniquely Mercedes V8 warble"

and this gem:

"It is a Bach organ concerto on wheels, drowning out the withering white noise that surrounds it."

Someone needs to call, 'to ask about the car', and only have one question: How does something drown out something else in a muted way?

Get your answer, hang up, report back.

Being uber-picky, looks like there is something funky going on with the driver's door chrome atop the sacco panel. Radiator star is wonky. It's Doom Blue. Grey leather has a sniff of old fella's slippers about it. Buy it.

I wonder what the wings and loom are like on this 1993 E280 estate, photos look ok and apparently FSH at £4k.

There is another dry stored E280 at £2k (photos show a £2.85k screen price so either no interest or people have run for the hills).

I'm trying not to be rude, but even as tiny as a 3 series is, it appears to have borrowed the rear wheels from an original mini.

That's a very odd look.

I guess that's an Alpina of some sort, but the BMW model, E-whatever, of that 3 series was just about my least favourite BMW ever. Ugly, snout-nosed and graceless. The ones that preceded and then followed it were much better.

I imagine they will indeed. On another note, just how tacky do those iPad-thingys posting as speedo and such look?, not to mention very out-dated when these reach classic car status...if they do at all. Not a fan, I'm all for progress, but a proper dial has it's place.
I was happy to condemn them before I saw the full-TFT cluster on my Dad's new F-Pace, but it really does work very well. I'd rather have gauges in some cars, but it allows a much more seamless integration of the new techie bits rather than having a tiny info display stuffed between the gauges, or have to take your eyes off the road to look at the central screen.
I love the Audi virtual cockpit thing. I used to love a dial but ever since the E38 BMW when they lost the uniform dial text/design I haven't been as enthralled, the new dials are something to be embraced when it comes to new barges IMO.

That car is a Sytner-special Alpina B2.5 which isn't based on any model that Alpina built at Buchloe. The kit was camshafts, exhaust, ECU, steering wheel, gearknob, front spoiler, plaque and wheels, and sometimes suspension depending on what the base 325i model was already fitted with.

I used to harbour similar E36 feelings to Monsieur DeGaulle but of late the E36 has grown on me; the straight clean lines can now be likened to defined and reserved sinews in comparison to the overly developed musculature of the E46, a peak condition Hagler to a bloated Tyson as it were.

I do have a soft spot for the Alpina B2.5 as a baby-all-year-round Alpina but I do hanker after an E36 B3 3.0 or 3.2 Cabriolet as a summer cruiser to complete an Alpina Limo/Touring/Cab stable.

The fact the previous owner only spent £10k on it over the preceding 13 years goes some way to explain the relentless MoT failures and advisories during that time.

I was hoping you'd pop in for encyclopedic explanation, much appreciated. smile

FWIW the E36 is growing on me as well - I think it's because all the barried chav specials have either rotted or been crashed away, leaving the nicer ones with tasteful colours.
