Apparently, when new, it developed 223hp and drank at a rate of 13.4mpg.
Both those figures are probably smaller now
If that was SAE Gross then it was probably smaller then, never mind nowBoth those figures are probably smaller now

30hp per litre??? Talk about unstressed...
Could you imagine how "interesting" it would be to drive with that chassis, suspension, brake, tyre combination with proper power outputsGeorge7 said:

The XJ8 went into restricted performance mode today (very restricted!) and goes there if you use significant revs several times. Annoying as I had been getting on with it very well.
Any ideas? Obviously get it to my mechanic and get the faults read. However I have 2 cars there already and owe him some parts!
Hopefully not the gearbox saying goodbye...
A friend of mine had a recurring 'engine failsafe mode' issue on his 2000 XJ8 which turned out to be a dodgy coil pack. We identified which one it was with a cheap ODBII code reader. Any ideas? There is something admirable about that. Our man Sedgwick (the Barigst's Bargist) was a big fan of yank tanks, running a couple of Lincoln Continentals and Cadillac Eldorados on his Surrey to Mayfair commute and on some of his long distance jaunts but nothing so base as a Ford.
Meh, A Lincoln's just a Ford in a posh frock.Pothole said:

Talk about st engineering, more like.
European cars too sold in the US at the time had much smaller power outputs than the ones sold in Europe. The emissions control systems really took any joy from 1970s cars. It's also SAE net power, not bhp. I doubt that a Jaguar 5.3 V12 of the period was making any/much more power than that in US spec.

That car provoked an embarrassing Twitter dummy-spit from the guy who styled the MkIII Flying Spur.
Any link to the dummy-spit? Vaud said:

This is for sale near to me, looks OK in photos and I had a brief walk round but can do some more investigation if required. MOT history not great but seen worse.
