Thanks slk 32, very informative.
Apologies i couldn't get you the pulley wheel..I'm not sure how effective it would have been without the remap :-(
No problem, I have been speaking to Eurocharged about a map anyway, your post just appeared at the right time, nearly!

I agree with you about the engine, the instant urge of the supercharger is lovely, although as mine is an estate, the dog is less keen.

I can't link from my 'phone but there are some interesting Honda Legends around £5k at the moment.

Interesting to me anyway.

Only if you ignore the exemptions mentioned in the first clause you quoted i.e. "Save as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3)..."

Para 3 says
"(3) Instead of complying with paragraph (1) a vehicle may comply with Community Directive 75/443 or with ECE Regulation 39.2"

And Community Directive 75/443 says that kilometer speedos are legal. The only time they are not legal is for vehicles manufactured for the a domestic market where imperial measurements are used. That is not the case for the Volvo, which was manufactured for the Japanese domestic market.

The relevant standards laid down in 75/443 make it clear that KM markings are mandatory throughout all EU countries with MPH required only under certain circumstances:
Good knowledge, thanks.

It's getting to the point when the duffers disappear. I'm coming to the view that the good cars are seriously underrated. The mechanicals are bulletproof, the feeling is trad Merc, but the refinement is leagues ahead of the 124. And the CDI motor offers unbeatable performance, efficiency, reliability and longevity. Or you can get a big V8. I spend a lot of time looking at Muggins' 430 on the eBay.
In my capacity as Muggins, so do I.

Still for sale...

Me too. A Legend, a 7'er V12 or a '210 E36/E55 are the next barge itches to be scratched.

Also I'll put a quid on an LS460 coming into budget in this volume.

The big Honda ticks a lot of boxes.

Reliable (I think), reasonable power, agile handling, lots of toys, not brash.

I had a W210 320CDi and really really enjoyed it.

In moving from 210 to the 211 I think it is a clear case of more car but less Mercedes

Great idea - but to be proper "PH" the signs have to be in Welsh, don't they?

(reference the "It's Welsh, you 'tard" in response to "Ambiwlans" - sorry for the Spoiler if you already knew this!)
That would make a half decent mini camper van actually. Extra kudos for a V8.
Definitely. I'll be looking for something similar as a mountain bike/ski base next year. Got to beat a ropey T5 for the same money.

Have to say I've been having naughty thoughts all morning about painting that Savannah Beige and doing a high quality camper fitout to rent to the Glastonbury glampers.

What's the real situation with this engine? Lots of scary stuff on the net about sumps, pipes et al, how do threadists rate the risk (I'm thinking about it in 6 series cab form by the way)
Oil leaks are quite common but rarely major in terms of causing issues (oil leaking down the spark plug bores can become an issue, though) but the coolant pipe thing is nothing to worry about these days. It used to be an engine out job. Now there's a really, really simple fix which costs something like £2-300 to sort out, if that, and it is guaranteed to last.

Oil leaks can be pricy to fix as they're labour-intensive. Nice engine, though.

Wonder how the chap is getting on with my old 745i after 3 months!?

Thanks - I'm flippy-flopping (having determined that the SC430's simply not big enough in the back, I think) between 645 cab and 630 cab as the family 3rd car. Sensible vs full-fat (and I know the 650's probably the correct answer, but they are hen's teeth, by the look of it)

I've seen the valve seat issue in other threads, and it's embarrassing (clouds of smoke after idling AIUI), but not terminal by the look of it - although an expensive fix, even with the endoscope method, seemingly. The new coolant pipe fix is reassuring as that was, as you say, big-money. I've read up on the sumps warping, which again seems a cheapish fix. Where else do they leak oil from?

Sorry to spoil it but my first thought on seeing any LR/RR based camper is of Jimmy Savile's mobile abuse range rover camper

Here was I, romanticising about a will-o'-the-wisp fancy, following the sun o'er hill and dale, slave to no man. What I was actually telling the world is that I'm a predatory abuser, with truly awful fashion sense.

You really know how to dash dreams BigBen.

cylinder head cover gaskets are common, mine leaked from there. It had another leak as well but can't remember where that was coming from off the top of my head. Fortunately mine didn't have the valve seat issue, or the coolant pipe issue and I had the oil leaks sorted. They really are nice engines though, very smooth. Just make sure the gearbox is as well as the dampers inside them wear out and lead to jerky changes. Not a horrendous bill, but not a cheap one either (about £650-700 IIRC)
