I thought orthopaedic seats was a joke! Is it essentially an electric lumbar support system?
How can you joke about such a serious matter?! It is a vacuum operated lumbar system. I think on these later cars it can firm up the bolsters and lengthen the squab, too.

I had that on my E320 Estate - it quickly moved from being a novelty to being used every journey, brilliant on my bad back!

When did they make the change from calling it orthopaedic to "Multicontour"? Searching for the latter seems to be quite popular on millenial Mercs.

I have a Omega 2.6 2002 Estate i bought on eBay £690 2.5 years ago 93k miles, came with a spare set of wheels and winter tyres 12 months mot and the cam belt and suspension arms done.

I have had exhaust, battery and i did the front discs and pads myself done on mine everything else is fine, mind you i only do about 1000 miles a year in it as i work from home, I've had 4 Omegas doing most of the work on them myself so any questions fire away.

Yes they are getting rare not many low mileage ones about.

This not bad over priced and will need the cam belt doing soon but MOT history fine - https://cazana.com/uk/car/OV51ZGC

Mine is an addition to the fleet intended to reduce motoring costs. The 190 is fine and my wife's use of it (which amounts to 15,000miles a year) imposes little cost on my pocket, less than a grand a year. But the 129 with 266k miles and the 124 with 357k miles cost a lot to keep on the road when they are covering 40,000miles a year between them. And as I get older, I find the driving I do for work tires me out more and more: neither the 129 nor the 124 is the last word in refinement and a day trip to Swansea and back in either (750miles) leaves me knackered.

So the theory goes—here comes some starred-first, "Peterhouse"-grade man maths for you—is that the 129 will be retired from business use and everyday commuting and kept for high days and holidays, possibly even laid up over winter; the 124 will be reduced somewhat to family and holiday touring duties; and the 210 will be my personal car for everyday commuting and business travel. Its low mileage (77k) and decent history (especially recently) should avoid substantial expenditure for a few years; and its big petrol V8, relative modernity, saloon body shell and "Elegance" spec should give it the refinement edge.

Now, where do I get my certificate?
My position is just a much less impressive version of yours, realistically. I bought a W126 for daily (25K/year) duties while the C123 -which used to do the miles- rests semi-repaired. However, I think I am -contrary to thread character- basically a 1-car person so the 126 gets all the attention (in shame, not much) at the moment.

This week I've been ferrying 4 older gentlemen (who are working in my team) back and forwards from work to our hotel in west london. Unloading the car on the morning Morrison's visit we look like the world's least threatening Mafia hit squad... should've bought the SEL though, dammit. Even an S-Class seems small when all your passengers have arthritis.

Despite that I've bought a great 126 since I first clocked that one, I still want it. Crumbs. I'd just pile them up if I could. Velour!

Some fantastic purchases chaps, and nice to see the MB 210 E Class getting some overdue thread-love at last. Also good to see the finest tradition of buying unseen is alive and well.

I've heard my old 745i is back up for sale, but not as yet advertised. It's only done 2k miles since I sold it last August, just been MOT'd. In that time it's also had a service (though not sure exactly what was done) and a new window regulator.

If anyone is interested I can put you in touch with the seller.

Thanks Ross.

Only selling due to a change in job and less miles now.

My e38 hasn't been out my garage in 6 months and I really want to get going on a mini resto of that.

Drop me a PM with the details. (I owned the car for just short of 6 years prior to Ross)

Have you done a 'readers cars' of your 126? I would be very interesting in reading...

bit of a lurker here...

i see lots of love for the ls400 on here but thats a bit big for me, but theres quite a few GS450H dropping into the 5k area now, some with recon batteries by lexus with warranty, any reason not to?

350 odd hp with the motors working, no folding seats is my only stickin point, SE-L a must obviously, and I think ACC was standard on early cars in the SEL trim

were the massage seats available on these?

but love the XJRs to..
I wouldn't worry to much about the size of the LS compared to the GS. You sit pretty high in the LS, the glass area is large, the pillars are thinner in common with the era, and they are extremely manoeuvrable thanks to the steering lock of a London taxi. My other half has only owned 3 successive Clios since she passed her test, yet still comments that the LS is just as easy to get into tight spaces. She's right.

Plus your £5k gets a pretty worn GS, compared to easily the freshest LS from the top of the market. Or one for every day of the week from the bottom wink

That said, I would like to own (amongst lots of other things) a '450H one day. Great cars.
thanks for the info, i think i have a mental block for any of the largest in marque, 7er, A6, e class, even the XJ, the only thing that tempts me into them is the thought of the massage seats, hence looking at the GS

Turbo with a Wether's interior.

It's my perfect mountain biking wagon, wouldn't even have to worry about scraping it.

Not with the bargiest of barge poles - alright, it's a very desirable thing, but goodness me it'd be ruinous.
