I think someone mentioned looking for an Omega a few pages back.

Consecutive plates and a potential business in bargists' funerals.

That Omega looks great. I have fond memories of a 2.5 V6.
I wonder how hard it is to get over to Dungannon
Ring McLaughlin's in L/Derry. Probably about £350 to your door, max. They're over & back at least weekly I believe.I wonder how hard it is to get over to Dungannon
Really not worth the hassle of going to get it yourself, trust me! After the disasters I've had buying cars in GB and going over to collect, I wish I'd thought of it before!

I want a 166

I never realised I wanted one so badly until that post.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-166-3-0-V6-24...

The definitive barge antithesis to my LS400.
I can highly recommend the 166, having owned a 1999 V6 Sportronic (almost identical to the first 166 posted above).
There are a few weak points specific to 166s, though if these have been addressed by a previous owner, there's no reason a decent example wouldn't go on to give sterling service (mine did).
The two major highlights with the 166 are the interior (it feels like a junior Maserati in there) and the engine (the Busso V6 is an absolute masterpiece, if not the last word in fuel economy).
Much as I hate to agree with Clarkson, proper petrolheads need to own an Alfa before they die.

Thanks both. The one in question does have the newer FSI engine. Useful info, thanks.
In which case it's worth asking about inlet carbon build-up - make sure you take it right up to the rev limit and that it pulls cleanly all the way. The S4/RS4 is particularly bad for it, but all FSI engines are susceptible.mccrackenj said:

I have used them in the past.

A 1992 car will have a four-speed box. It should not, however, be slow or dull-witted.
I don't know whether it "should" have a standard/economy switch ("S" or "E": the "S" is not for sport); or whether its absence is a quirk of the Japanese market. Stegel is right: the standard/winter switch only came along much later with the 722.6 box (about 1997). The 722.5 five speed box was never available on the 500.
Thanks for the info everybody. I think my import car represents better vfm than the POA car linked to earlier as it cost a little over 5. Values really are spread across a wide range.I don't know whether it "should" have a standard/economy switch ("S" or "E": the "S" is not for sport); or whether its absence is a quirk of the Japanese market. I guess 'slow and dull witted' is all relative. I'm driving a DSG Golf at the moment which might explain my perception of the R129s gear changes.

Of absolutely no interest to me in the future though. Never again. No, definitely not. Honest. Really. No. I meant it.
OK JZZ30. Man up!

Yum to both of these. I prefer the manual car's wheels but I'm strictly auto-only for day to day duties. I have to say I am very tempted to put in a wee bid on the first. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-166-3-0-V6-24...

That is very cheap for a facelift diesel. Belts just done too, although the one at the back for the fuel pump is due at 150k. As a Jaguar I wouldn't worry about reaching 150k and having to change that belt though The engine is smooth, but not quick and just when it feels like it's getting it's act together it runs out of revs and shifts up. Always felt like it needed another 50-80bhp to me, which is what it got with the 3.0 version.
