What a lovely thing the SLC is - I definitely want to see more pictures. I doubt it was any where near thread budget though!

Please include the interior - leather or velour? I can't recall which it has.

I have ordered some ginger indicators (Zoner I need to compensate you for the failed set!) from eBay. Claimed OEM manufacturer:

Well I've just experienced the bum-clenching thrill of the first drive of a new car. I've owned the SLC for a few months now, but apart from a very short test drive with the mechanic after some initial work, had barely seen it, let alone driven it. Today was collection day.

Couple of thread-givens: fuel reserve light lit, check; unsure of route home, check; cash in a brown envelope, check; and the number of the recovery firm close to hand, natch. I'm afraid I broke thread-rules and forgot to take a fuel station picture. BLUF is that we made it, and it now sits on my drive.
I had to Google that one. I'm guessing you're meaning the second result rather than the others, unless it was a very interesting drive...

Blimey! Er, yes, the second result, definitely! The others are distinctly niche.

Bottom Line Up Front; we use it a lot at work and I rather assumed it was well-understood. Apologies if not, there's nothing worse than I'm-in-the know acronyms or slang.

beautiful thing and looks like a lovely example. More more more pics plz! Are you saying that was had within thread budgie??
Thanks for all these, and the other comments chaps.

Reference budget, it wasn't less than 5, but wasn't very much higher on purchase. Subsequent restorative work totalling more-than-4 has taken it out of this thread though.

To avoid cluttering this thread, there is more detail, along with pictures, here:

That really is a deeply unattractive design isn't it. I keep thinking they'll grow on me, but it's not happened yet.

That's my old car! Bought it in 2009 from a fellow PHer. Took it to Germany and maxed it out multiple times on the autobahn - always missed it and tried to buy back from the fellow I sold it to (stupid stupid mistake - sold since having a kid and thought not practical which was juts wrong).

Been through a few owners since me - the original wheels have been replaced.

S539KLX - thanks for the 2am Darmstadt to Frankfurt vmax runs :-)

Loving the SLC. A very nice way to travel, and to arrive, I'm sure.

Not as gauche as an SEC or XJS. Very restrained and proper. A lightness of touch that those cars perhaps lack.

Dare I say it's a bit more feminine in atmos? Certainly less demanding of attention, and projecting of strength and aggression.

Is it as nice to drive as the XJS?

As we all love an XJ-S, how about the house to go with it?

The house used in the original publicity pics is up for sale

for a mere 300 times top thread budget

(disgruntled-looking totty not included)

Agreed... I so much prefer the next one, also reputed to be available in thread budget...

Steady on there SJ - that's dangerously close to the marketing guff for the next iteration of Mercedes 'scent for men'!

Lovely car though CdG - your health to enjoy it.

Love that. Remarkably unmodernised which is great to see - the tiling and built in furniture are high points for me. It's one thing keeping a car original but takes quite some restraint with a family home.
