Best smoker barges 1-5 large [vol11]
Discussion
A minor classic of the "I was so busy writing this comprehensive advert that I clean forgot to mention the mileage" genre.
Also, isn't "ascetically resplendent" a contradiction in terms?

Anyone else think 124's are over eulogised, they dont last forever, needing ten grand spending attests to that, yes, they were very good but have had their day and most are now garage queens or utterly knackered, anything Mercedes have built since is "junk", yeah, right.
I think the rust period made them look better, but since then things have been pulled back, I drove one not long ago and it was a decent enough drive but it just felt old and slow, they were fantastic, but lets not get carried away.
He said a bad thing about W124s!!! This cannot stand!I think the rust period made them look better, but since then things have been pulled back, I drove one not long ago and it was a decent enough drive but it just felt old and slow, they were fantastic, but lets not get carried away.

Wheels need a refurb, big dent, who knows what else? I'd prefer a dark (black) interior but these have such presence. Reckon it might go for about 4,000 ..... And at that price I find my self tempted. Anyone want a nice E65 750i ? bristolracer said:
A mate of mine (fellow car guy) bought one of these recently - a 2003 model for £3,800.Whilst it needs a bit of fettling (front suspension knocks a bit, some isolated lacquer peel), it's a lovely thing for the money, and goes like a scalded cat.
He seems permanently on the brave pills, because his last car was my old L322 Range Rover 4.4 V8, which I bought back from him a year later. He admitted to having a "V8-shaped hole in his life" after letting the Rangie go back to me, hence the XJR.

Only a 230 but doesn't look expensive to me given the bodywork.

A couple of smart and tidy E500 estates - really starting to think this might be my next move after the V70

A bit of additional info:
Plenty of life in the tyres but certainly not "new".
Air con blows icy cold.
COMAND unit was dead but that could have been fixed. Other electrics work.
Last service about 10 months ago. IIRC about 9k until next one due. Last service was all the usual bits plus brake fluid & gearbox flush/new ATF fluid. I suspect a a new set of plugs is needed.
It had a new SBC pump at 115k miles when I bought it.
There is a removable tow bar that shows very light use.
A Parrot 9200 is fitted and working (independent of broken COMAND)
New soft close tailgate mech fitted a while ago.
The tailgate has had a few wallops and is getting manky on the bottom edge. One of the reverse parking sensors is a bit iffy.
All is all it is a cracking car and a bargain at that price. If I had the space I would buy it back. Apart from the duff COMAND the only niggle is that there is occasionally a warning light relating to the ride height raising. I think it is moisture related as only ever came on when it had been raining heavily and the car was pointing up the slope on the drive. It never stopped it from working and would invariably stop reporting after a drive or two.
This looked worth a punt at £2600.

I kind of expected it to sell for no more than this and kicked myself slightly when I saw the result. Could have been something nice to smoke around in for the remainder of the summer, with a view to having a go at fixing the broken hood over winter. General mechanicals are unburstable and the hood is all electric rather than the more complex hydraulic affair found on the R129. I'd wager its actually a pretty simple fix, worst case scenario being a visit to Lexus for a go on their diagnostics. Even if you chose not to touch it, I could see you getting your money back come next Spring.
