Interesting. I seem to remember there being more of these about at the sub £5k level than I can now see at a glance. That the roof was damaged at a car wash is a bit worrying, even if only because it suggests the owner was a regular car wash user. I'm always a bit suspicious of a trader who choses not to fix something as important as the roof not working though... if it were an easy fix, one of his mates in the trade would have done it and added a big chunk of value to the car.

Only a 230 but doesn't look expensive to me given the bodywork.
Lovely paint with a free W124 included in the price!
Cheers!

Barge people, am I on the money with the price or should I be asking more/less? Input appreciated!

There were - I was looking but ultimately not buying a while back and values were quite weak. They have strengthened, for sure, albeit you're never sure exactly what they are selling for.

In this case I wouldn't worry- I doubt the dealer would be arsed to even look at the fault. It's a part ex, the hood malfunction would be considered and a suitable low-ball offer would have been agreed with the punter. Best to sell as-is. The EBay starting price will be what it owes him, plus fees and a drink. A week's auction, and the deal is completed- no need to bother faffing around trying to fix something that may come back to bite him on the arse within the return period.

Never mind the merits or otherwise of this particular example; I'm genuinely interested in the collective 1-5 thread view of these - apart from the looks which are, of course, personal.

So, whadyathink??

That's my old E500. And at that price it is a bargain.

A bit of additional info:

Plenty of life in the tyres but certainly not "new".
Air con blows icy cold.

COMAND unit was dead but that could have been fixed. Other electrics work.

Last service about 10 months ago. IIRC about 9k until next one due. Last service was all the usual bits plus brake fluid & gearbox flush/new ATF fluid. I suspect a a new set of plugs is needed.

It had a new SBC pump at 115k miles when I bought it.

There is a removable tow bar that shows very light use.

A Parrot 9200 is fitted and working (independent of broken COMAND)

New soft close tailgate mech fitted a while ago.

The tailgate has had a few wallops and is getting manky on the bottom edge. One of the reverse parking sensors is a bit iffy.

All is all it is a cracking car and a bargain at that price. If I had the space I would buy it back. Apart from the duff COMAND the only niggle is that there is occasionally a warning light relating to the ride height raising. I think it is moisture related as only ever came on when it had been raining heavily and the car was pointing up the slope on the drive. It never stopped it from working and would invariably stop reporting after a drive or two.
Great insider ownership info bga - this thread always delivers. Thanks.

The fact the SBC pump has been done is surely a positive notwithstanding some of the other negatives you've also shared.

God knows about the price. You're not in 'Barge 1-5' territory now, as 124s are 'proper classics' whatever that means. (That's not a dig at Jacko above, he's right about that bit).

As I said in your Readers Cars thread, if it were a 300E you'd have my cash in your account by now, but the 4cyl limits it for me. Of course, plenty won't agree with me, and if you look at w123 prices, the engine has a lesser effect on prices as time passes. The older the car the more important condition is Vs spec, so on that basis yours is a strong contender.

If I weren't so fixated with the extra smoothness of the 6 vs the 4 I'd say your price is very fair (I know you've spent way more but that's irrelevant) and there'll be other potential buyers who won't be as hung up on the engine as me.

What would Mark Taylor or Edward Hall price it at? Then maybe knock 25% off Mark's price and 30% off EH's?

Here is a better picture of my RRC. I will post some better ones later tomorrow if the weather is a bit better. I'm so scared of it rusting I've had a garage built - as you can see in the 190 picture earlier I'm already putting it in the garage before its finished ( door goes on next week).

I've had it 8 months however it was away at Atkinson engineering in Birmingham for nearly 6 months mostly for the chassis and underside which were good but are now totally sorted. It's a jersey car with only 60k miles. 1989 3.5 vogue so one of the last 3.5's. Grey teddy bear and very rare portofino red. It's in great condition however if I'm really picky the previous owner resprayed it ( due to the red fading) it and it isn't perfect. I'd like to respray it again however I've not found anyone yet who I'd trust to do it - any recommendations gratefully received.
Oa's SL respray looks really good. I'd be prepared to pay good money for a really good job.

The sound of the 3.5 is very addictive.
Mitchell Motors did a cracking job of my Bristol after I pranged it, and I know they have done several early RRs, inc a few CSKs I think.

still on my hunt for a barge (though now looking at 10k, should there be a 10k barge thread?)

but came across this LS, leggy but not sure that matters on these tbh.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/06-LEXUS-LS460-V8-SE-L-J...

its crazy, i've doubled my budget and can't come close to this for spec frown its got me wandering!

i remember someone saying earlier that they didn't get the feeling that the LS was much larger to drive back to back with GS, anyone else feel this?

Go steady with that one. I think 1exuschamp is the guy who used to be called lexuschap.

He's not called lexuschap any more because people who google lexuschap don't buy cars from lexuschap.

Make of that what you will.

If anything i would say you are under.
There are a lot of very tatty "classics" out there for much more money than that.
If i were you id be firm on that price.

I wouldnt be at all surprised if someone has that and flips it on for a bit more.

What are the manuals like? And how do you do a hill start with the foot-op parking brake?

The parking brake is applied by foot but released by hand, so it's ok.

Ideally you catch the parking brake pedal with your foot when you release it by hand, so it doesn't unload with a bang, if you're on a steep hill and get the timing right on the clutch and you can get away smoothly and quietly.

It's not a car that should really rush away if priced correctly, but I'd say that almost sounds a touch low.

I know it's a 4-cyl and therefore to some a bit less desirable, but if the paintwork is that good (and it sounds lovely), then surely a corrosion-free 124 is worth wrapping in cotton wool for the next few years to someone? Heck, even the MOT history is fab.

There is quite a high level of satisfaction to be had from a foot handbrake hillstart combination.

Er... is there an MB-savvy forumite near "Nelson, Glamorgan"?

This is VERY tempting as a return to MB-dom.
