Best smoker barges 1-5 large [vol11]
Discussion
Well, the guy that bought my 540i from me (P/T trader) Has now listed it for sale for £2k more than I sold it for 3 weeks ago...no harm in that but the CAT-C marker obviously isn't declared...alongside a few of the other issues...
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/16112938...
Also sold by me with 134k, know that it was taken abroad so likely another couple on there in addition.
Good car but be careful...the repair wasn't 100% perfect (cosmetic)

In case anyone expects to get Lexus 400 build quality with the 460's toys, a sobering read: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/11046...
Pretty sobering indeed, although I'n not convinced that little tale is representative of general ownership. The car in question was an absolute pup, the mileage was fantasy and had obviously travelled double/treble the miles over it's short lifetime on some of Europe's worst roads. Unfortunately the poster paid the price.r129sl said:
Harrumph.
It's a shame they are so few in number; and those that are available never are interestingly coloured and specified.
I still look at the Stansted car every five minutes.
Yes unfortunately they are almost all in boring colours. I would love a non silver one. Stanstead car has been for sale for a long time so no need to make an impulse decision. It's a shame they are so few in number; and those that are available never are interestingly coloured and specified.

I bought mine privately with a couple of bits that needed doing but seller was upfront about it and price reflected that. I like to buy privately as you get a feel for how it has been looked after and less likely to get burnt on a major problem. I bought mine before it was advertised through the mb forum.
Spent 700 on new ball joints plus front discs and pads shortly after purchase. Just spent another 1200 on rear discs and pads, service and engine mounts. All service items really. Hopefully that will be it for a while! I have a few cosmetic bits to do but will do that as and when funds permit. It is running very well now
As before r129 if you want to try mine before taking the plunge drop me a pm.

Over budget... but could be haggled down with a low ball?
It's been on sale for bloody YEARS... £17,000, £15,000, £12,000, £11,000, £10,000 now £8,995.

Ah - so WHY won't it sell? After all it's (purportedly) a £163k car! It's been on sale for bloody YEARS... £17,000, £15,000, £12,000, £11,000, £10,000 now £8,995.

I'm no fan of a braaaannnn interior, and apart from that it's only the practicality of a LWB that would make me hesitate .....
It's sublime.... if only I had enough brave pills to, and a canister full of cyanide to use when it goes wrong... probably about 5 m away from the dealership
I don't even care about the bork factor and potential for ruinous bills.
In a year or two when I'm after a wafty barge, something like this is right at the top of my list.

Drove the e500 estate Bristol to the Isle of Wight and back yesterday and to west wales and back today loaded with kids and clobber. It really is a consummate all rounder.
Comfort mode for the motorway schlep and then changed to sport 2 setting for the twisties. Returned 26mpg which is good for the rapid progress I made.
It handled the heavy rainstorms extremely well with very effective wipers and lights. It feels safe and is easy to drive at pace. I'm liking it a lot.

That was a sobering read indeed. It looked like an absolute stter from the start and had possibly the most dubious backstory going, but the buyer put a huge amount of time and effort into getting it put right. I did get the sense from reading that that there was always some niggling doubt about the car in his mind, so I wasn't surprised to see the rather silly excuse of not liking how the throttle reacted appear as he said he was thinking of getting rid of it. For it to effectively suffer an ECU meltdown shortly after was a bitter pill. olly755 said:

I thought the same - a car with no history, originally ROI (i.e. non-UK supplied, so slightly different spec), rusty arch from damage, wayward front end. All adds up to a big no-no for me, that said he did a smashing job sorting it out, the calipers in particular were very nice.golfer19 said:

Desperately want this, but can't justify at the moment. Good job it's 400 miles away.

The only blot on its copybook is grey interior rather than beige/cream. But heated AND ventilated seats. Oh yarsssssss.

Sorry, that does nothing for me. It's a Vectra with some Swede bits on it. About £2,500 too expensive, dubious build quality, nowhere near as good as a Merc, even to drivehttp://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

I currently own a Merc E Class estate (S211) and would swap it for this SAAB in a heartbeat, if it were practical for me to do so (I need a diesel estate at the moment). In fact, the E replaced a tired old 9-5 estate and I still prefer the SAAB overall.
