MEGA BARGAIN ALERT
MEGA BARGAIN ALERT
Lexus LS400 £595
There's not much in the way of a description, but these things are tough as old boots.
I know the minimum price for this thread is £1k, but what with a few pages recently of budget busters, I'd bring us back to the bottom price.
I reckon with a haggle you'd get it for 10% of the top thread price!
I'd smoke about in that all day.
DISCLAIMER
I haven't read the MOT history, so it could be a nail with 500k miles on it. Still, if that is the case, for ~£500 what were you expecting...

That Vitesse looks a tempting proposition.
I'm sure the pictures flatter to deceive, but how much longer can they be a grand for!?
A lot longer. Nice cars, but the number of people who really want to buy one is, well, it's barely a number at all.I'm sure the pictures flatter to deceive, but how much longer can they be a grand for!?
I think the only events that cause these change hands now is the failure of either MOT or ECG.

I agree. Too Partridge-esque, and too uncool (even for sad losers such as we) to be in any way desirable outside the miniscule number that already have one and will buy another, and those who nod sagely that they were under-rated decent cars but wouldn't actually spend any of their own money on one (such as we).Have any of the forum experience of the CLS?
I traded my LS430 for one three months ago (2010 car) and I'm just not bonding with it.
The main reason is the ride, coming from the air suspension of the 430 pretty much anything is going to feel rough but the CLS takes it to a new level.
I'm delaying the inevitable visit to a specialist to likely be told there are wooden blocks under the struts hence the crashy ride but perhaps it's normal.
Any offers?

They are all pretty rubbish though. The 2 litre engine is very rough, the power output and turbo mid range no longer has any novelty value, and they are very fragile. I'd be tempted back into a Vitesse Coupe maybe. There is little to no real affection for these cars so I don't think they'll ever be worth much.
If you wanted one as a retro shed I'd get an 827 with the Honda engine, as much for the more robust ancillaries (steering hydraulics particularly) as the stronger engine.

I find my dad's much too firm. His is on normal 18" wheels, and 'comfort' setting is still miles too thumpy.I traded my LS430 for one three months ago (2010 car) and I'm just not bonding with it.

Ref the X350 3.5 V8 - not driven one but compared to the N/A 4.2 there isn't much difference in MPG so one may as well have that. More is better after all
Agreed. The 2.7D seems totally pointless to me. Not massively more economical than the 3.0 petrol, no faster and considerably less reliable. Likewise the 3.5 is pointless as you get less MPG than the 3.0 without the performance of the 4.2 N/A or S/C.3.0 Petrol, 4.2 V8 or 4.2 S/C is the way to go IMO.

They're worth it! The time when you can re-live those days will come my friend.
But man maths reigns supreme. By my reckoning, the £100 a day I'm spending on childcare will run something epic when they are both in school! How much are Bentley Turbo Rs again?!

Ah well, smoker barges it is until I can afford a non-smoker barge.

That's what I thought. Until my Mrs decided that they needed to go to school in stripy blazers and straw boaters. 12 years of motoring penury (amongst other penuries) so far, 10 to go.

You both should have compromised and sent them to a sink estate state comp in stripy blazers and straw boaters. Ah well, smoker barges it is until I can afford a non-smoker barge.
That was the sort of thing that gave Ace Rimmer his leg-up. They'd thank you for it eventually.
You may need to find a good cheap stock of boaters. I imagine the attrition rate on those might prove as expensive as Stowe anyway.
