That's what I thought. Until my Mrs decided that they needed to go to school in stripy blazers and straw boaters. 12 years of motoring penury (amongst other penuries) so far, 10 to go.

Ah well, smoker barges it is until I can afford a non-smoker barge.
You both should have compromised and sent them to a sink estate state comp in stripy blazers and straw boaters.

That was the sort of thing that gave Ace Rimmer his leg-up. They'd thank you for it eventually.
Kind of what my parents did to me, sending me to a prep school then a comprehensive, there were only 3 of us "posh tts" out of a year group of 200 when I got there. From being the derided pauper amongst millionaires to being the derided "posh" freak amongst hard nuts. It's made me the man I am today. *twitch* *twitch*

I'd probably be an ordinary, white Audi leasing clone if it wasn't for that experience.

You're just a beginner. This Nov will be the 28th conscutive year of childcare in this marriage, plus another 4 to go until the youngest sits his 'A' levels.

That's why I bought a £400 Volvo last month. Sobs.

But at least we have a live-in babysitter (aka 25yo older brother), cook, bottlewasher and lawn care assistant. Who pays rent!!! Halleluya.

Back to thread - that Rover could still become a Classic, only because anything with an internal combustion process still extant in a few decades (so not the Rover, then) will be rare as rocking horse poo.

Similar here: state primary, prep school, senior school, then state grammar for 6th form. I did not talk like what they done.

Still it got where I am today driving 1-5 barges which keep going wrong so I have achieved something

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for one of these. A Lexus with a hint of menace and purpose unlike their usual gangly, nose high stance common of the age. Plus I'm a sucker for a staggered setup.
I had one of these new in 1997 - It was a lovely motor. I think it cost me £39995 - The Hi-Fi sounded great plus it came with a user manual on CD-ROM to talk you through some of the advanced features lol

A thoroughly nice car.

The time when you can re-live those days will come my friend.
True, and I do love them to bits, even though I'm undergoing motoring purgatory at the moment.

But man maths reigns supreme. By my reckoning, the £100 a day I'm spending on childcare will run something epic when they are both in school! How much are Bentley Turbo Rs again?!

Fortunately the local state schools here are good so I should be ok there. With my luck though they'll take up horse riding or motorsport and I'll be penniless forever.

I have been offered a r230 SL500. For free. Fresh from the main dealer wherein thread budget has been blown putting it into order. Would you? If you were married to my wife, would you? If you were married to my wife and had my financial commitments, would you?

If you wanted one as a retro shed I'd get an 827 with the Honda engine, as much for the more robust ancillaries (steering hydraulics particularly) as the stronger engine.

You'd have to actually find one first! There aren't many now

If it's free, why would you not? Regardless of other commitments, there's nothing cheaper than free.

Although, thinking it through, you really shouldn't. I, on the other hand ...

Agreed, either of those would make me very happy.

I'm on a car collection run tomorrow and while I feel it might have aspects of slight appeal to this group, I expect it to be detested. I'll update tomorrow evening, I'm a sucker for controversy

It's an odd spec and has a reasonable number of cylinders and it's a tiny bit below thread budget, so I think it's a good start
Another promising detail: I haven't seen it yet and I've got to drive it 150 miles home

This alone guarantees thread love.

Don't forget the petrol station forecourt shot on the way home.
