I drove the 190 up to Aberdeen this evening. Even removing a good chunk out of the Google estimated time, the thing is surprisingly pleasant to drive for longer distances. Running in fairly grim conditions with significant water on the road, the new tyres (Michelins) and refreshed suspension gave a lot of confidence. Pretty good for a 1988 car anyway.

Indeed. Is the "R1 performance pack" a very good thing?

Run out marketing, I think.

I found myself in a posh bit of London today and spotted a 52 plate xjr parked outside one of the posh shops. It looked right in the exact way a w220 or whatever those horrible BMWs are wouldn't.

It may well be, I have no idea. but those wheels are an absolute shocker. Too much spoke and caliper, far too little wheel.

I like them. Don't like the tints however.

Agreed. I think this is the best looking XJR

Wheels like that on the X350 would make me a very happy man.

Those alloys remind me of the castors on an old tea trolley. Never liked the wheels on the XJ220 much either.

Beat me to it. A bit council.

Also 5 spokes, but the Pentas look less 'fussy'.
That XJ is also missing the lower coachlines.

The XJR wheels above are beautiful, and the XJ220 alloys are the some of the best looking wheels ever made.
XJR's (6 or 8) are criminally cheap right now.

Lovely interior. Nice drive home too.

I actually see the point of wind-ups. Electric windows tend to get flakey with age but you can't go wrong with something mechanical and simple.
Also, should you happen to drive into the sea you can get out with keep fit windows.

Think the 'mistral-esque' wheels are my fave on the x308 - are these late model only?

I keep having irrational thoughts of swapping the lex for a XJR - insanity?

I'd love an XJR. Tints would have to go on the silver one. IIRC the Brembo brakes are very pricey for pads and discs. No doubt they stop extremely well.

I agree. I didn't much like those wheels when they were new, but now they're probably my favourite wheel design of all

Normally I'd agree on "simple is better" on old smokers, but I've personally only ever had one electric window related problem that took real effort to solve (cable snapped in a Rover 800 Coupe) whereas half the old snotters I used to drive would have a seized windy window mechanism on one or both sides. Very common on the passenger side because nobody could be bothered to lean over and wind it down I imagine hehe

Perhaps it's just old mercs, but I have done loads of window regulators and motors on my cars - in that regard keep fit windows would be welcome!

However I do like to be able to open them on a sunny day without having to get out and go around the car.

Perhaps Mercedes should have done what they do with the mirrors - offer a manual driver side one with electric rear/passenger ones!
