Thanks for the info - I'll paste the photo of the 126 engine bay on the wall in the garage as something to aspire to!

Since no one seems to want to do it, here's one that looks OK. There are no petrol options on the 'Trader currently. This looks to be in reasonable condition, has the important (for me) child-proof black leather, and hasn't been to the moon and back:

If you fancy negotiating, and like photos, this looks OK too:

Shame the boot isn't particularly dog-friendly, as it sort of rules it out for us...
The problem is I have found a nice one for 7k-8k. Low mileage (30k). 7k on a c6? Am I crazy?

A bargain for one of the most striking of modern car designs. A proper barge as well.

In my man maths mind, I sense a slowing of the depreciation on these C6s as well.

Welcome. What catches you eye?
Many things 530/530d (apologies I am drawn to smokers on occasion), 535/540, 940/60 or the ubiquitous ls400. I really fancy something RWD, as reliable as possible given and given my budget is going to be something along the lines of £2k max when it comes time to replace the bora I'm thinking 530 960 or LS are the most likely or maybe something over the top like a grand cherokee (lpg a must for one of them I feel). I do love the interior of a rover 75 but really fancy rwd again.

A dodgy double act. Paul is the Man for bodywork, Baister for mechanicals, although Baister's mechanical expertise is a thousand times Paul's bodywork expertise and that is not to knock Paul.

I was there today. In one and the same breath he was abusing his apprentice son and complimenting Zoner's second 129. "fkin' stone mint underneath, like".

The gold 126 has to be seen to be believed. An over-used phrase but appropriate here: it is 100% museum quality. If it were a 560 it would be £20k all day long. I've some pictures of the engine bay, I'll try to dig them out.

Isn't the 850 a sad reminder of how elegant top notch motoring once was. What is going on? Why is it all psycho-aggression these days?

Edit: here it is. This was on an ordinary wet day. Not prep'd for some car show or anything like that.

I had a C6 Petrol exclusive for 2 years and I sold it at 70k miles for 6k - idiotic. I miss it more than any of my old cars.

C6 values are definitely hovering around the same for good ones. The shed ones are creeping down a little, but with so few out there they're firming up a bit as well.

That W126 is incredible, I'd feel bad about using that! Wrap in cotton-wool for 30 years and sell for a packet.

I'm strangely drawn to this 'Werthers Original' W210 E430 . One owner for the past 12 years, good spec, bit of a sleeper with a V8 under the bonnet. The tinworn has started to bite, but am I naive to think you could nurse it through 2 more MOTs just paying for the petrol?

At that money it's worth a punt even more if you chip him a bit

I think you could run a managed retreat on that for a couple of years, then sell the alloys for not far off half the asking!

My E430 is only a bit better than that. It is costing me nothing to run. I'm hoping to get three years and 50,000miles out of it, maybe a bit more, and I doubt I'll have to spend more than £1,000. It cost me £2,900 and I have spent £1,000, pretty much all of it on servicing (it needed front discs and pads and tyres). It is a brilliant car and plenty fast enough for me. It'll do 60 in a little over 6 second, 100 in 15; it'll run up to 155 without much trouble. It is very quiet and smooth and easy to drive. And it gives 25mpg. If these didn't rot, they would be regarded as the best medium-sized cars ever.

The spec on that one is pretty special. It is an avantgarde but the buyer was obviously smart because he specified the (no cost option) brown "sapelli" wood rather than the black stuff which would have clashed with the "java" interior. It is not quite full spec: it lacks ADS, which is probably no bad thing. The seats are the best: orthopaedic, fully electric, heated, position memory and ventilated. And it has the Bose system; the COMAND is still perfectly serviceable with up-to-date discs still available.

Plus there is a lot of ingrained dirt for free with that one. Maybe the vendor's mother works on a building site. I wonder what a weekend with a lot of cloths and cleaner would do to it.

That 850 is beautiful... but is it me, or are the back wheels oddly cambered?
They are - probably E34 M5 wheels with the wrong offset or the replica throwing stars. I had one of these 15 odd years ago and was slightly disappointed by it. It was a nice car but it didn't really do anything brilliantly.

I nipped into Mannheim auctions yesterday, and a very clean 'no warning lights' 07 plate 630i Sport in black went through for £4400. That's a somewhat better deal than an old E31 - that silver one will be a monster underneath. Multiple V12 oil leaks, rust and God knows what else.

Mine was £16'000 in 2002, a six year old one owner 50k 840Ci so..............

I don't blame you. Never mind the bits of rust - they are of no importance - check out all the stitched leather bits and the fk off V8. I bet a grand in readies will buy that. What a car!

What a super barge that 430 looks. What more do you want for the money?!

Feeling brave? How about this E55 for only £1,200 above thread budget. "Within a haggle"? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

The wheels look a bit small though... and it has a cat marker.

Make sure the E430 has still got its boot floor.

I remember opening the side hatch in a friend's E320 CDI estate and pointing out that that was the top of my shoe he could see down there. The rear end underside on these can simply disappear.

This clown has been trying to pull 20k for an old 850i with rattle can black fake alloys for years.

Yeah, sounds like a nice one.

The only way this shed would stun you is if it ran you over. Ghastly.

Buffalo leather, though?

Anyway, his eBay listing contained a link to this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NO-RESERVE-1986-BMW-518I...

Now, doubtless, it isn't as good as it looks—how could it be?—and, obviously, it lacks two cylinders. It is unlikely that the leather accompanied the car out of the Dingolfing factory gates. But still... I nearly had one of these as my first wheels. They were about £1,000 back in 1993. I ended up with a 1983 E30 316 for £750 and it was a cracking car. A224 BFT.

His other cars look 'interesting' a load of overpriced P38's and what looks like a job lot of extremely gold cars.

Yeah, defo m8. :roll eyes:

It's £4995 on a good day, and not my £4995 either. Old 14 mpg M70 V12 with the standard sump gasket pissing oil out. You see stuff like this and it makes you realise how cheap some cars are - that E430 Merc Estate would hang onto the back of this all the way to 150+, not bad for a grand.
