Big, soft wuffle-y SUVs with big, soft, wuffle-y petrol V8s are in scope for this thread, right?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

Looks relatively clean, and a good little winter run-around for someone...

About that time I think, my 53-plate W211 is spotless apart from a bleb on one arch where the bumper has rubbed and been left untreated. I've never seen a noticeably-rusty W211 either.

What do we think? Too expensive given that the advisories suggest that it's definitely NOT '...in fantastic condition'?

Great use of a spoiler tag, definitely very toppy. The current owner seems to see the MOT as the be-all of condition.

ETA: I hadn't even looked at the ad. "Fantastic condition" yet you've got a ruined rear-end, oil tins and rubbish in the rear footwells and manky headlights.

Late 2003 really. You will find the odd slightly tatty one as they're 12-13 years old but late 210's were pretty good. I had a 53 plate C180K Coupe and apart from some stone chippy rust on one back arch it was fine. 52 and 03 plate ones were generally teabags.

The W211 rarely rusts - they're a nice car and for so little. I'd favour a V6 petrol auto myself and sod the economy.

Handbrake tightened, airbag light turned off, bulbs fixed/ lights cleaned, and the capital offence of having a dirty number plate fixed.

Airbag fault unlikely to have been fixed then as pass was same day...

"General corrosion" not suggesting a pristine example really!!!

But what would you pay (and have to do to every E39) to get it mint, or buy one mint?

Cheers. It has sold! buggeration, had a sunroof and 5+2 seats too. Bland silver black interior though.

Any thoughts on this?

It's a loooooong way from where I live. However, a manual is rare, is it not? Would love to go and see it but it'll be a whole day out for me.

I had the older model grand Cherokee years ago to two a big trailer for work. It was the 4.0 six cylinder. Very comfortable old thing. Felt unburstable.

Atrocious fuel economy though.

This seems pretty good value, polish up the headrests and some nice V8 waftiness with the kids in the back. Seems a lot of car for the money

Certainly on the radar in the next couple of years to replace my LS400 I think

Looks alright but the manual box is not really desirable. Nice mileage though.........£1700 would be better.

This is about 12 miles away from where I work if you want me to go and have a poke around it?

So did I, a good 4 or 5 years ago - I was making progress (well, I thought I was) when a black R reeled me in and growled past. There's a well written thread on Grass Roots Motorsports forum about one chap rebuilding the engine when a head bolt gives way. It got me browsing for one - there was one on eBay a few months ago but I'd yet to present the "why we need to drop a diesel and buy a petrol load lugger" argument to Mrs Stegel.

Looks good; memory driver's seat, COMAND, digi climate... Can't quite see if there's heated seats, but the only downside would be boring silver over black.

It's got heated and ventilated front seats - the upper and lower switches at the extreme end of the switch array beneath the Comand unit.

I thought a manual would be better on an older car. Less to go wrong?
