I see the Werther's E430 estate has gone. Anybody here?
I was hoping it was you!
Come on, who purchased it?!

Not often this uber-barge is to be found in budget. 'Only' the 500, and with 200k, but this is a car whose time is coming, and who doesn't love blue velour?

Interesting reason for sale too.

Oof, lovely. Probably a total money-pit, but just look at it!

Isn't that just cloth, not velour?!

Had a C Reg GTI version 15 years ago, electricals not their happiest point, but did it go and could it make short shrift of Irish B/C class roads.......

I'm sticking with the 124 for the time being. Unless a really minty E430 Elegance or E55 AMG estate happens along.

Reluctant sale as wife has just given birth.
My first born's first ever journey was in the back seat of the 500 SEC in which the previous evening I had conveyed (at ever increasing speed) his labouring mother to the maternity ward. Less than 24 hours' old, I took him and his mother 35 miles up the road to the maternity home in Alnwick. A nervous ride as I am sure many of us will know.

I can think of few better cars for a young family. At three months' we had a trip up to Wester Ross in the same car. Here he is en route to his baptism:

And that is velour. No cloth on the SEC. Leather, velour or amaretta, which sounds like that sickly Italian liqueur but isn't.

Looks velour-tastic to me.

Pity about the naff speakers in the door cards.

Damn it CdeG, you hit a raw nerve. Did my wife put you up to this? That was the day of a sartorial faux pas. Brown shoes. Worn out brown shoes, at that. What was I thinking? Well, I was thinking it is a Sunday and I am not going to work. No excuse. But I am not one to hide from my mistakes:

Au contraire - hipster. Ahead of your time, and trend-setting even then. Nice work sir.

You must be keen, having had three kids, securing a baby seat in a 3 door car is a complete PITA!

I admire your honesty and you've held up your hand. We can all move on. Forgive and forget and all that.

Rare? Yep.
Jap? Yep.
Barge? ???

I like these things, but I do feel that their rarity is a negative rather than a positive. If you want a quick Japanese 4WD estate, surely Subaru would be the better bet?
Not sure whether it classes as a Barge, but I think it certainly has a place on this thread. It's tatty, but probably wouldn't take a lot to be a lot nicer. I like the pop up screen too, which would give it extra Dad points.

I can think of much worse rapid dog and baby carriers for £3k, which it would be after a wheel refurb, an afternoon with the chips-away chap, and an afternoon of intense cleaning. Nothing would stop the front end looking a bit like a Vectra though.

Loving this - I'm definitely going to consider a Stagea for my next round of barging. Anybody see the Mighty Car Mods "double unicorn" episode? biggrin

That's why you'd go for the pre-facelift version, if you can get your hands on one (you could also graft an r34 skyline snout on there as well). Very definitely a barge, they are not dinky by any measure.

Thanks to the Large Citreon Love above, I've had a wee look at XMs on Car and Classic.

There are a couple above Thread Budget, and a couple below, leaving this within scope:

Looks like such a comfortable place to spend time.

Friend has one of these (without changing the front), quite nice inside too but nothing to blow you away. Very rapid though;

If it was me I'd get a mk1 one in red:

Seems you can put any Nissan front on them, not sure how much work is needed though biggrin

I'd say horribly horribly naff plastic inside - put me right off. They are absolutely enormous in boot space though!
Bought one of the afore-mentioned nippy Scoobie estates instead smile

They are fabulous cars if you find a decent one, would always go for an auto myself though. I've had a couple of them, one which was lovely and another which was an absolute money pit, if you'd parked them side by side though, you'd never have known which one was the bad'un.

Too much. Unless you want that old-Volvo-had-a-lot-of-pianos-dropped-on-it look, of course
