Let Them Stare
Discussion
As a Lotus group, SELOC, we have been supporting Little Havens Children's hospice in Southend for 17 years raising over £300,00o for them
Those high flying years of fundraising are unlikely to return sadly
They need £6000 a day to fund the facility and at the moment are 70% down on donations
This forum has helped enormously by buying my books.
2008 was our best fundraising year..just before the world financial crash

To help the hospice along I have written Book 3...following 'Let them stare' & 'Let them stare again'
These two books have sold a little under 4000 copies
Book 3 'Chasing Elites' is different as it charts the history of the Type 14 Lotus Elite and follows a well known first owner one in particular that resides in my garage
The book was released at the end of August and so far has sold just over 300 copies
Book 3 is only £10....Book 2 has been reduced to £10 as well
Ideal for Christmas!
Here we go...

Hi all 1
Book sales progress slowly..next one will be number 324
I had 1000 printed so I could sell for a tenner
The difference in cost between 500 and 1000 made it a no brainer !
Just means I have an office full of boxes
With this Book 3 a greater percentage have gone abroad :
Australia 9 Switzerland 2 USA 13 Netherlands 14* Japan 1 Singapore 1 France 4 Belgium 2 Portugal 2 Germany 4 Tasmania 1 Spain 1 Luxembourg 1 Denmark 1 Sweden 1 Finland 1
Sales in the Netherlands were helped hugely by this review in a Lotus fanzine
Normally a publisher will announce a new book well in advance with some fanfare. In this case an
odd email, referring to a website ‘Let them stare’, arrived in the inbox of our secretary. Hmm,
interesting. The writers name rang a bell, albeit very faintly. The website promised a book about the
type 14 Elite. The book was going to give an insight why this specific Lotus is such a remarkable and
progressive type of car. The foreword was written by Max Mosley and the cover looked good,
although the ‘Lady next to Car’ is a bit of an old-fashioned concept (I have learned since the lady is
the author’s daughter). Price? Only £10 and the proceeds will even go to charity. That sounded very
generous to me, so I ordered a few. In the blink of an eye my books were delivered. I held Chasing
Elites in my hands. A very well presented book, 21 by 21 cm and 108 pages. You can’t tell it is a
privately published book. On the contrary, most large British publishing houses that produce books
about cars can learn from the design of this book. Hipperson takes you back into the history of the
Lotus Elite and of his own model, chassis number 1649. Chasing Elites is a personal story, and does
what it promises, it tells the story of this special Lotus. The writer didn’t have to research it’s history
and stories, he was part of it. It is obvious this isn’t a professional writer chasing his quota of books
by recycling known facts. It is nice and easy to read and has a large amount of photos and
illustrations. As expected, some are known, but lots are originals, personally taken by the author.
Conclusion
Chasing Elites is a fabulous book about a fabulous car. It looks good, is well written and the contents
is accurate. Very good value for money, and the few quid you pay are going to charity on top of that.
In a nutshell: Buy this book!

I am just about to order more Book 1...4th reprint
The children's hospice, whom we support, will need £24,000 just to operate on Christmas Day & Boxing Day
We can help a tiny bit !
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT !
