RE: Shed Of The Week: Mercedes E-Class
Discussion
There's clearly rust on the bootlid around the key lock and there is rust on the bonnet around the grille. Eh? Mr Shed clearly needs to examine the photos properly...
That switch next to the drivers seat is for the electric orthopaedic lumbar support and absolutely nothing to do with an aux heater.
Also, this car has had 11 owners! Not sure about the mileage being correct, that steering wheel looks far too worn for 147k miles on a W210. Yes, even though the MOT history verifies the mileage, could possibly have been clocked back each year before the MOT (yes, cabbies still do this unfortunately from what I have been told).
And yes, those are wheels off a W208 CLK Sport. The standard Avantgarde wheels were prone to corroding.

Remember travelling in the back of one of these in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria.
It was a taxi, with intergalactic mileage, and for those who don't know the resort, there's a bloody big, steep hill that has bends resembling the Stelvio Pass road.
Freewheel down the hill and blast back up for the next fair; not sure how that effects the running gear but at least 50% of the time it was on tickover....
There is something that just doesn't seem right about this car to me, can't put my finger on it (calm down Mrs Shed...) and I definitely wouldn't put my money into it.

The 300TD in their time were the fastest diesels you could get, the engines will go on forever and they still sound like a straight six with a good exhaust:

I've got a BMW 330d, and it sounds great around 3000rpm, but much further above or below that and it's not so exciting. (I think you can hear something similar in the first video - sounds good when revved, then not so interesting when driving around.) But nothing wrong with it generally, and there's something very appealing about how it revs fairly freely and without feeling especially harsh even if you get to the rev limiter. Certainly didn't take much driving it to become certain that I never want another 4-cylinder diesel, and to be honest I'm not really sure how keen I'd be on another 4-cylinder petrol car either.
In fact, come to think of it, I might as well just recommend buying this, purely on the basis of the sort of engine it's got. I admit I've never driven one. I admit I've never been in one. I have however seen one, though... I think. But anyway, I like the engine in my car, and this has the same sort of thing, and that's good enough for me, especially since it would be your money that will be paying for it.
If you were thinking of changing your car, and you had in mind a 4 cylinder diesel, buy this one instead. Maybe it's got cloth seats, and crap wheels, and within the year it'll have collapsed into a pile of dust... but it's £1000. You owe it to yourself to make sure that even if you'd be satisfied with a 2.0L 4 cylinder diesel, you wouldn't be so much more satisfied with a 3.0L 6 cylinder diesel that you need to get one of those instead.

This one looks ok, says it's cat d and headlights need a clean.
The MOT history has no issues showing, but it is he smallest petrol v6 these came in.
