For me, it's one of 2 cars.

My second car (my first turbo'd one) Fiat Grande Punto T-Jet. I had a custom cat-back fitted which made it sound ace, and it would pop and bang like an MF with the AC on, or if I changed gear right. I loved that thing.

Second, which stands out (and I still miss it now) was my old Megane RS265. The standout memory was absolutely spanking it round Castle Combe, in the soaking wet, overtaking everything. And also spinning it at 90mph, facing sideways at the first bend, with nothing but armco out of my windcreen, and managing to 360 it infield. I'm still trying to get the stains out now..

The 993, no doubt, I still regret having sold it after 15 years.

I loved it though, it almost killed me a lot but I remember the good times over all the very bad (and expensive) times!
Always liked those, they do appear to be rather troublesome.
I had 2 engines, 3 turbos, 2 gearboxes + all the mods. I probably spent 10k on it and sold it for 4k hehe
I still own mine (4 years last december, 24 now!) And whilst I haven't lunched any engines, boxes or turbos. It's a constant stream of maintenance hehe

Currently looking to tidy up rust and paint to sell it on. but mine didn't cost 10k hehe Was £3750 or so 4 years ago, if I get paint and that tidied up I'll probably manage to punt it for 4-5k.
I considered another a few years ago but the prices have just gone up and up, couldn't justify it!

Black/Cream with Advan 3 spokes rocked my world.

Wow, a car with 2 engines and 3 turbos? it must have been gone like a rocket ship!

I guess my most memorable would be my FTO. It was my first interesting/fast (for me) car and it genuinely sounded brilliant, it looked unusual and definitely turned heads, it was rare and it drove beautifully. To me it felt very special to drive, to many others I guess I looked like a chav smile

I honestly feel that if my lottery win ever happens a perfect condition late model FTO version R would be THE first thing I bought as it holds so many great memories for me. I'd go out and buy the RS6, M600 and 4C Spyder afterwards...

1990 309 GTI

I was 19 at the time, couldnt afford a 205. Fitted a k&n and a silly exhaust. Cost me 2k and nearly as much to ensure. Never enjoyed driving as much.

I have to say, for a car with so many imperfections, the Vantage is certainly one with a personality that gets under your skin. I think that is perhaps the key to "memorable" cars - they need to have foibles for them to be so memorable. My old Boxster S was a very, very competent car in almost every way - and completely forgettable.

After moving from nearly 20 years of BMW dependability, I'd have to agree.

It came as a culture shock but the reality is - for me at least - that the foibles are benign and rectify themselves quite readily(read; occasional warning lamp issues etc) but the underlying character of the car is one you just can't help but bond with.

It's so much more than just a machine...

Ouch. I'd did spend 5 grand on the Mercedes last year after a rather disastrous trip to France.

The icing on the cake was about 5 mins after I'd picked the car up the key broke off in the ignition.

Not one, not two, not three, but four brand-new Ford RS200s. All gorgeous, especially the red one. More than 80,000 road miles in four years. Sigh .....

Quite an eclectic mix of cars so far - seems that part of what makes a car stick in your memory can often be the experiences you had in it!

Definitely would have to be my Reliant - a 1980-vintage Robin converted by the previous owner (retired fellow who used to work for Bond) into a pick-up. I somehow managed to drive it from Surrey to Norway where it was bought by a Norwegian codger whose hobby was manufacturing amphibious vehicles and touring the lakes of Europe in them. It's probably at the bottom of Lake Garda by now. Was a true lemon but got serious attention, especially from the ladies. Interestingly the Norwegians classified it as a motorbike not a car or tricycle. Next most memorable car (not including my Mondial as I'm thinking in past tense) was a red Guy Salmon XJS V12, loved the custom interior and the instant-power-on-tap and smoothness of the V12, especially fun in the wet.
