McLaren are probably the biggest profile assembler I can think of. But the mainstream manufacturers do indeed build their own cars. Electrical systems and control systems may be outsourced, but engines and platforms are not.
But what about Nissan and Renault, just as one example? It's probably correct to say that no car manufacturer has always exclusively used their own engines. Sorry if I came across strongly btw. Nissan and Renault have that Alliance gig. Sharing engines...we have a Micra diesel with a Renault engine for example. Saab and PSA shared platforms too some years ago. My Mazda 323 had Ford bits on it.
