Ta. The KickStarter for the last book was only to cover the cost of that book, it wasn't set up to earn any money from it.

I will set up a new Kickstarter for this new book if there's sufficient interest. My accountant thinks I'm nuts - I want to write books to make people happy, there's no financial masterplan here.
I'd put my name down right now, I really enjoyed your first book thumbup

Thank you! smile
Seriously, it's left me inspired. I reckon I could do a return EasyJet flight to Nice, two nights, hire a Fiat 500 and thrash the granny out of it around Le Col de la Bonnette, stop in Barcelonnette for some excellent food and get home again for under £300. I've just costed it out.

I think I'm gonna do it this summer

I once rented a Chevrolet Z26 in Florida (think Cavalier convertible).

We were in a bit of a rush to get back to where we were staying one night so I tried to vmax it.

At an indicated 135mph or so, with my foot flat to floor and the car unable to go any faster, the transmission decided to kicked down.

Took us by surprise, to say the least.

I think it was the Avis who were offering free weekend rentals of Laguna's, it seemed like a great opportunity, too good to be missed in fact. The Patio had been broken into hardcore for some time, I was at the point of arranging a mini skip but with a free mobile one available it seemed rude not to? Avis were very pleased indeed with my feedback on its loading capabilities. They don't seem to offer this service anymore...I wonder why biggrin

I think its sad abusing a car just because its a rental.
Yep, agree - abuse your own car fine but these stories of deliberate abuse are pathetic
I can see why you might think that, given the mildly provocative title of the book, but it is not about "stories of deliberate abuse". No-one would be interested in that.

A boring disclaimer from page 5;

"There may well be rental company management reading this and getting a bit narky at my behaviour. There’s probably also rental company employees thinking “that’s nothing, we barrel rolled a Renault Espace in the short stay at Gatwick airport once”. The aim of my automotive adventures is not to deliberately cause damage to the cars. I’ve always reported any damage caused as I wouldn’t want to leave a car in an unfit state for some unsuspecting family to rent. When paying the insurance excess waiver (essential, in my experience) there is usually no financial penalty for any damage caused, so there’s no incentive to hide anything. "
accepted but some of the replies have been criminal - if someone borrowed their personal car and did the same or a mechanic they'd be up in arms. Treat others possessions with the same respect you expect others to give to your possessions. Or, if you like mr big willy poster lend me your car I'm gonna rag it! No? Thought not. tosser!
