Regardless of what happened beforehand, using a vehicle as a weapon should be a lifetime ban IMO.

Apparently the firm know about it and are investigating. Hope the police clock
him as well. Easily a fatality.

Not defending the van driver for a moment-,but it looks like the red mist descended when the cyclist hit the van, which looks to have turned a slightly close but safe pass into one that could have killed him.

At this point as van passes cyclist appears to be deliberately moving right in order to hit it.

I have seen other occasions of cyclists hitting vehicles- it's stupid and dangerous, especially if cyclist has already been involved in some sort of dispute so he knows the driver may be just as angry as he is....

Looks very much like the cyclist is antagonising him by riding in the middle of the lane, not that it excuses the van driver's reaction

As much as using your van as a weapon is to be frowned upon. What was with the cyclist being in the centre of the lane?

Also, the van only swerved when the cyclist started hitting the back of the van. Again not saying the van driver is right for reacting that way but the cyclist could not have been much more antagonistic!

Probably trying to make sure some nobhead doesn't try and pass him in a totally unacceptable place...?

Don't get me wrong I can see that but deliberately blocking someone will antagonise nonetheless especially mentalists like the van driver.

That bike is far too powerful for him.

As a motorist and cyclist I agree. Doesn't bother me having to hang back to give a cyclist room before I have a clear road to pull over giving them room to pass safely.

No matter what the cyclist did, that could have been a fatality. Totally inexcusable.

If I'm cycling in a place where I'm holding up the traffic, I pull over to let them pass, and certainly don't attempt to block them from overtaking.

Then again, I also drive.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fatality, unless corpses can ride bikes.

Poor mamil snowflake, that lane was wide enough for the van to clear him safely. Yet he had to throw a hissy fit and assume a tt position.

Agree, you'd have to be mental to put yourself in the middle of the road like that.

Didn't look like a " totally unacceptable place" to me.

Shocking driver reaction all the same notwithstanding the cyclist striking the side of the van. Hope he/she gets dismissed by their employer.

The road was wide enough, yes, but it's dependant on traffic coming the other way playing ball and not hugging the centre line putting "pressure" on the van.

Physically everyone would fit on that bit of road, whether or not it would've been comfortable, especially for the cyclist, is debatable.

The van driver was quite happy to run the guy off the road so I have no doubt he wouldn't have been too bothered at having to squeeze him if things got tight, which I guess is the view of the cyclist too.

In that situation as a cyclist, I stay to the left and make sure I have an escape route if I do get squeezed. If I genuinely felt it wasn't safe for a vehicle to pass then I'd move out a bit. I certainly wouldn't plonk myself in front of a moving vehicle to "increase" my safety on a reasonably wide bit of road.
